One assembly we attended the speaker suggested that the brothers and sisters who were unemployed should pioneer. One brother took their suggestion and pioneered. Then his wife complained to the elders that her husband was not taking care of the family. The elders told the brother to get a job. You're damned if you do and damned if you don't. You can NEVER do enough or do the right thing in this Organization. Tell the elders you need some financial help and they will run so fast it will make your head spin.

If the wife has not worked in many years, it's likely that she has few marketable skills that would offer her many options in the workforce.

She might be better off selling Avon or Tupperware. It's more of a social marketing thing, and it may just open her eyes as to how hard it is to provide for oneself. Then again, it may be her way of boasting. She gets to slam her husband for not making all the Meetingsā„¢ while he provides for her every whim, and then she gets to play the martyr.

was not allowed to get a job because I would probably fornicate and do other unspeakable brazen acts.

What about the UPS person or the postman? Or the neighbors?

had our CO last year That told point blank in one of his speach That "many years ago men went working and wifes stayed at home.but now women go out to have a job, it's the work of the devil."

when you hear stupidities like That you are not surprised by many things That happen next...

This being said, i tend to agree with anneB. You do not need to hear This woman complain if That bothers you, Just walk away and let them live their life as they want to (or as they think they want to anyway).

In the 90s my husband was doing okay with his business but we really needed a little more than he was making. Our daughter didn't need me at home, and I was able to get a nice office job and not miss any meetings.

You would not believe the flak! The sisters were the worst, criticizing and ridiculing. And it got worse when I dared to say that I enjoyed the job and the commute (with books on tape). But I kept the job anyway and helped pay off some debt.

Another enormous red flag I ignored - that people who had no business in our personal business felt entitled to judge our decisions. WE WERE SO BRAINWASHED, OMG!!!

p.s. In 92 there was a popular sister who got everybody going with Tupperware and of course we were having a ball and it had to be squashed. BIG pressure with condescending talks in the meetings and circuit assemblies- no more fun or money. Too bad so sad, dummies!

I'd ask if you had the same CO as me, but the one who said that to us retired about 3 or 4 years ago (over age 80).

But he said almost word for word, exactly that!

Shirley - "It's common knowledge that it's impossible to have a full-time job and not brazenly fornicate..."

Clearly, I've been doing it wrong.

Hoser, I hear you - you are not prone to drama, or story-telling ......... some women are just like that. Some PEOPLE are just like that - lots of men live off their women and get a free ride, too.

She sounds like what you said ... someone with a sense of entitlement, and yeah, poor hubby! It's not like he is in the real world, and can divorce her ....

    Oh, yeah, and this:

One of the hypocricies of the women's movement. Assuming he isn't stopping her from working - She thinks what she is sitting on makes her entitled.

DJS, this is absolute shyte. Sorry, but that's the truth. Your personal cicrumstances most likely colour your opinion, but seriously, that statement is almost embarrassing in its ignorance.
