A Question to All Believers in God???

Here is a decent comment on God vs. Evil... (a bit long to post directly)

    http://groups.google.com/groups?q=Rev1v3%40webtv.net&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&selm=23507-37666762-26%40newsd-122.bryant.webtv.net&rnum=6

The existence of "evil" is one of my biggest struggles in having a firm belief in God. I just can't come to believe there is no God. In fact, the more I observe the atrocities of this world and, at the same time, observe the true innocence of my four young children, the more I come to believe an actual Good vs. Evil war is being fought right here on our planet!

I use to blame God. Now, these atrocities affirm a personal determination to guide my "free-will" towards love. I still got lots of "why" questions, especially in the case of this little girl, but God is God and I am not...

As a side note, I first learned of this tragedy watching a news broadcast during lunch with fellow co-workers. I dismissed myself and went back to my office and wept. I returned a few moments latter to the lunchroom. My co-workers were boisterously talking about today's stock market performance. The tragedy didn't stun them a bit; no emotion, nothing.

Today, I proudly shed a tear for innocence. As Samatha's friend said, "Today I cried because I missed my friend".

May Peace and Grace follow you Samatha...

    JT,

would you agree that most belief system that are based on the "bible" teach for the most part what you have stated-

i mean --think of all the folks with the 23rd Psalms on their car bumper or folks who oppose abortion on the grounds that god knows the child and is concerned- and the list goes on and on where folks who believe in the bible view god almost exactly like you describe, they refer to having a "Personal" relationship, one on one,

now that sounds like some serious attentiveness on the part of the divine one

    Yes!!!

Anyone that believes that god is actively working with them, either in a one to one relationship or blessing them in some way , is delusional. God is not doing anything. When he wants people to jump up and revere him, he will do something. {If he ever does} Until that happens I would chill out! Its not worth getting heated up about.

I agree . my only point in raising the "jailbird" issue is that even though they are in jail for committing some other crime perhaps---- they too feel a need to DO SOMETHING -

MY dad works in the prison system in NC and for a child molester--- prison is not the place to go- they will dog you for sure

so if you have --as some would say "low life jailbirds" who have a sense of justice in realizing that there is no excuse for him killing the little girl and they will met out some "street justice" then why would the "loving god" sit by while folks like you and others including my self say

"Give me a couple rounds with this guy" yet god says nothing-

What if there is no death. That she is alive now, and has always been alive. Will always be alive?

What if we come to this planet many times in search of knowlege. Knowlege we get only by making mistakes.

To live lifes of all different religions, races, and even sexes? To do "good" things and even "bad" things to learn from the out comes? What if this is "earth school" and there are no wrong choices. we just come back to do it again? Kind of like "defending your life"{the movie} What If?

What if that raped little girl, was a rapist in another life, and was just getting what she was giving before?

We look look at things at face value. We who are using only 3%-7% of are brains, trying to make sence of it all.

What if everything we believe now is wrong?

We have been wrong before, or we would not be here.

    Dutchie says:

"Maybe its just easier for me to think this way. I know that I feel comforted by these thoughts."

    @@@@@@@@

Dutchie your post is a very powerful one because it says so much, my wife asked if for many of us are we at times are willing to accept something that is comfortable regardless of whether is is true or not

your post was was thought provoking for a number of folks here at the house- thanks

we are having Fried chicken tonight - yes its a house full of black folks - smile

    thanks for the links

the girls went upstairs to my wife's office to ck out the links you sent

    Speechless stated:

"I dismissed myself and went back to my office and wept"

now this is deep here we have a man who doesn't know this child from Adam yet he felt pain so great that it moved him to wept like many of us, if not wepting pausing to reflect on the family and the pain and suffering this child underwent- and this is why we continue to end up asking

WhY don't we see this type of concern on the part of "God"-

I would challenge anyone on this board-

How many of you if you had the knowledge of who this guy is, where he is right now --Would do nothing?

i doubt that there would be an awful lot of folks who would sit on this type of knowledge and do nothing,

yet i am told to beleive that god knows where this guy is , that he will likely strike again, god knows who the child will be and yet i am told that he is "loving" as he does nothing

makes one kinda wonder at times.

I really wish I was able to be in your living room right now and participate with you all in this conversation. It must be as fascinating as it is sickening. But thanks for letting me take part in absentia like this.

I do too-- we are having a good open discussion here

looking back on my jw life == NEVER COULD HAVE OPEN DISUSSIONS OF SUCH ISSUES AS THIS without fear of being dogged

thanks for your thoughts as well

We who are using only 3%-7% of are brains, trying to make sence of it all.

Urban legend - we use 100% of our brains

And, Francois, while I appreciate that crime still happens in this county, and crime can be made to 'pay', I don't think the problem is with the justice system, per se. We are already imprisoning FAR TOO MANY people for crimes they DIDN'T commit.

The problem is with the government we have that allows - no, encourages - court bias based on income.

As to the topic at hand?

I think pagan teachings fit an explanation to the situation. Life evolved, but it was guided. Not by one entitity, though. There are too many 'groups' of life on earth, as it were, to believe one single being was responsible for an attempt at a united, harmonious planet.

I think ISP (and the Greeks much earlier) had it closest - there may be divine beings, but they are petty and vain - only interested in humans as long as they get worship from it to boost their egos, and useful for nothing more.

*MOST* the time. Sometimes, one of them may miraculously save someone. Just for fun. Then, allow another to be brutally murdered.

I have always held a belief in God, but one thing that always irked me was the way people blame God for everything. Asking how could God let this happen is an example. God didn't brutally kill that little girl, some sick SOB did.

Personally, I feel God is sitting back letting man do as he wishes and in time, will step in and correct things. At least, I hope so. I don't see God as controlling or making things happen, not yet anyway.

For all I know, God may be a myth or an ancient supreme alien race who settled this planet long ago. I haven't a clue as to who or what God is. I just can't accept that he has anything to do with our problems here, we bring them on ourselves.

I pray that he is real and that one day, He will step in and restore the earth to that described in Genesis.
