earth to that described in Genesis

    Really?

    The whole nine yards?

Lions turning vegetarian? What happens to all the viruses and fleas and ticks and such? They just disappear?

What of the mosquitoes - birds do need them for a food source, you know...

i don't think god has anything to do with man's affairs. i think it's the equivalent of naturalists studying creatures in their native habitats - when the weak and the sick are preyed upon, they don't intervene because it's nature taking its course. i don't think god was "sitting back and watching" this little girl's kidnaping and death. i also don't think god watches over anyone. we are on our own. what annoys me is people who are, say, lost in the woods, and pray to find their way out, and then when they are rescued they say god saved them. or when teams pray before games, etc. for a big win, and then thank god afterwards. or when a celebrity accepts an oscar or grammy and says "i want to thank the man upstairs"... i knew a man whose religion was real big on "harnessing the power of god for financial gain". as if god sits around and gets you a new car because you say three hail mary's. ugh.

i don't know... sometimes i don't even think i believe in god anymore. it's funny, even when i was a witness, jehovah wasn't half as real to me as jesus was. not sure why... i mean, i really loved jesus. i was always petrified of jehovah.

What if that raped little girl, was a rapist in another life, and was just getting what she was giving before?

To even make up a "What if" such as this is disgusting and demeaning to this innocent child, brutalized by a monster.

Just a reality check: that's only true if you hold his entire premise to be false.

    What if he is right?

What if the criminals who are never caught in their present life are punished by the god's in their next by allowing their crimes to be committed to them?

Yes, if you hold christian teachings to be true, this is quite an abhorrent suggestion. But, if christianity is a man-made religion, and it ISN'T true, then there are other explanations for things happening.

(NOTE: this does not, IN ANY WAY AT ALL, mean the killer is not deserving of punishment. HE NEEDS TO PAY FOR HIS CRIMES. I just thought you shouldn't quite so casually dismiss a theory - after all, is 'She was raped and murdered because humans are imperfect' really any better an answer? Is it not merely more acceptable because that was what you were conditioned your whole life to believe?)

As an aside, I don't happen to believe this is why things like this happen. As I mentioned above - gods are insane, we get the short end of the stick.

if God didn't permit evil, who would he punish?

i agree, and i'll tell you why:

i understand about karma, but the statement: "What if that raped little girl, was a rapist in another life, and was just getting what she was giving before?" almost negates sympathy or outrage, because it's "oh, that's that child-raper/killer, in his new incarnation, here to be taught a lesson."

she was nothing but an innocent. period. we humans want, need to, explain everything we encounter, in order to rationalize it. sadly, too many things cannot be explained. they just are.

I asked my husband, an apostolic minister, to respond to this.

    He says...

": Why does God allow bad things to happen? Because man was given dominion over the earth but fallen man has reigned in his stead. realistically if we are going to question why with this little girl, we should question why there are cigarettes, alcohol, guns, knives, God created man and man rebelled and produced sin. The love that God has shown us is in the cross to redeem us from the penalty, power, and eventually the presence of sin. which the little girl has already overcome"

I can't understand this, how God can sit there watching these things happen all over the world every second, there is someone dying, being raped, tortured, starving to death, persecuted, etc.

I know the JW logic is that he will soon put an end to this. But why? Why wait so long. I dont buy that man and all of heaven must see that God is the rightful ruler, most people know that and I am sure all in heaven know it by now.

These kinds of things make me think that I can not beleive in the JW god i was raised to beleive in, he was the most loving, most powerful, most just God. If we were made in God's image, then something is wrong here. If i was made in God's love in his image , and he is my father and he looks at me as his child, this is a strange relationship.

I have 3 kids, I adore them, would give my life for them to spare them any pain. If God is like we were taught , the loving parent to all humans, including little Samatha, wouldnt he save us. It has been long enough to step in. If I saw my kid hurting or in pain, I would stop it. I couldnt watch and do nothing no matter what my purpose was in doing so, my love for that child would make me act.

I have lost almost all of my faith in God and his purposes, I look at my kids and I just dont see why they have to suffer, we all will suffer, why cant God just stop it?

I think I need to look deeper into the fact that maybe God is not involved with us right now, i have no idea why he would abandon us now , when we need him the most. Maybe we will never know what God's reasons are,,, maybe we are not supposed to. I would hope that the children that have been murdered will go to heaven and have a wonderful time, but that seems like a fairy tale. Even if they were in heaven wouldnt they want their mama, she was only 5, even paradise would be lonely if you didnt have your mama at 5 yrs old. All of it makes no sense.

I held my children a little closer today, and actually scared them about all of this, so they would play in the front yard. It is sad to take away their freedom to ride bikes, but I want my babies home and well with me. I can only imagine what this mother and father are going thru, that would be too much for me, I dont think i could function in my life anymore. My only hope of making it thru would be for my other two childen who need me still and my husband, but my heart would have a chuck out of it forever. There is nothing that will make this family feel better, there is no comfort , there never will be. Even if they beleive in heaven, they miss her , they want her back. Why can't God just give her back? I am so angry.

This thread should be renamed to "Clutching at straws"

I have always held a belief in God, but one thing that always irked me was the way people blame God for everything. Asking how could God let this happen is an example

Thats NOT blaming God.....thats asking HOW he could let someone do it. Blaming him would be asking why he did it.

Although I know longer believe in the watchtower organization or taking the Bible literally, my faith in God is still intact. So, therefore, I can tell myself that in time God will clean up this planet, that the bad will be punished and that Jesus' sacrifice will have an impact on earth's inhabitants

"In the beginning Man created god". It seems so much of faith in God is exactly that: people having to convince themselves that there is a God and how he will react. The basis of this? Their own emotions....their own denial of reality.

Why blame God? We have no need to look further than our mirrors to discover the real culprit.

I agree with the actual answer. Why because there is no God! Its as simple as that. When we try to rationalize God it is almost always based upon emotions and injustice or emotions and despair. We just cannot accept that humans are in total control on this planet. That would mean we have to take responsibility and accountability into our own hands. We have the responsibility of making the world a better place (no god is going to come and do it because we are too lazy). We are accountable for the past actions and the results.....

People repeat what they have survived. That is the real answer folks. It explains everything....you just need to think about it and you will understand it. It explains individual behaviour and psychology as well as group behaviour and psychology.
