That was driving me crazy. I've been sitting here for the past few minute trying to remember what group he belonged to. Wow. I'm spent.

Now that you brought it up, what was up with Valyrie's costume? I mean a steel bra is probably a good thing to have in a fight, but that's gotta be uncomfortable.

    Enquiring minds want to know.

hey, who cares about uncomfortable, I thought valkryie was hot when I was 12. funnyyou two should be discussing the defenders - I recently completed my collection of defenders by buying some back issues on ebay. I was reading some the other day. you know, I had heard such great things about the early issues of the defenders and so far (I have read issues 1 thru 17 so far) I dont' see the appeal. dr strange was always treating the hulk like a "lil bitch" and they fought some not so interesting characters. oh well. maybe things get better once I get to the issues gerber wrote.

it's hghly doubtful that gargamel was a JW....remember he had a pet cat (azreal) and JW's are begining to think that cats are demonic....i read it in an article...if i can find it again ill send you a link

by the way....defenders was the first retro series i got into...mostly because back issues were dirt cheap.....the orginal series ended with issue 152 as The New Defenders. It featured Valkyrie, Gargoyle, Iceman, Beast, Angel, Moondragon and a bucnh of supporting non-hero types.
That series led into X-Factor, featuring the original X-Men.

In 1993, The Defenders returned as the Secret Defenders (also a nickname for overzelous elders who protect pedophiles). It had Doctor Strange and a rotating cast. It got axed after 20-something issues.

Finally, the tired and true defenders returned in 2001. However, due to lack of promotion, the book ended afer 12 issues and was casaded into a six issue min series called THe Order.

knighthawk: that article is ridiculous! I can not believe that I used to read such stuff and not question it! how do they leap from a latin etymology to anything being described as "beastly" as unchristian to "history tells us that cats were probably given as presents in biblical times at parties" is beyond me. what a load of rubbish.

in regards to the defenders: yeah, I pretty much have a complete run of the original series. the secret defenders comic had great potential but it failed miserably - to many bad writers. the latest defenders series I only got the first four issues of before I got bored with it. I tried the order, but all I could think of was "oh look, marvel is trying to do the authority". I never did follow it all the way through.

i loved the issues of Defenders where each of the lead characters formed their own squad....i saw some interesting characters come out of that! such as a blind guy in a tiger mask named Tagak....don't have any backstory on him
