Makin, I'm a night person as it is, so I doubt I'll have any trouble staying up

I'm serious, I am going to save enough to make the trip. Even if I have to wait till the kids are with my mom in MN.

Are most of you Aussie in Melbourne? I have an online ex-jw friend from Adalaide(*) Is that close by?

    SYDNEY:

    Stephanus & HotKitten (Mrs Stephanus)

    Hippikon & Mrs Hippikon

Uncle Bruce (when he's not gone bush)

    MELBOURNE:

There are also a few others who lurk the boards, and have occasionally posted, that I haven't mentioned. But these are the main "characters" amongst the Aussies!

Hmmm, maybe we could stay somewhere inbetween so we can meet all of you.

How far is Sydney from Melbourne? It looks like the distance between those two places is the same as the distance between Melbourne and Adelade, and I do want to see my friend Cora when I go.

    Lilacs,

It's quite a distance between Sydney & Melbourne - either 12hrs by car, or 1hr 20min by plane.

Canberra is the main city in between Sydney & Melbourne - it's the capital of Australia, even though it's smaller in population & size than Sydney or Melbourne.

About $300 approx! But it would pay to check that with Prisca, she's the Sydney-Melbourne and Melbourne-Sydney traveller in our parts...you can also get specials which range from $1 to $99 one way...but of course, being specials, you have to strike while the iron is hot baby...something I do a lot (leave the iron on)

As for mushrooms...well we had an overseer in NZ who was allergic to mushrooms and every time he visited our congregation it was announced that he was allergic to mushrooms and could the hosts please keep this in mind....so the first thing I said to Mackin was 'are you allergic to anything?? Mushrooms perhaps??' Same goes for you ladies...otherwise Andy (our chef) will make you eat what he makes...which will consist of damper and Roo Stew Unless you want to try my favourite NZ dish 'pork bones and puha' LOL.

Btw guys...I'm thinking about an international in August, what say you all?? I will have my brother Kep and family here in August...and of course I will be dragging the Melburnians out of their homes AGAIN...setting up make shift beds and doing what we do - talking, drinking, eating, talking, laughing, talking, etc etc. And if Kep brings his guitar...we can sing kingdom melodies together

Hey we have 11 months to save and plan...what do'ya reckon??

Count me in, Beck! Hey, I might even be a local by then!

PS $300 is a good estimate for Sydney-Melbourne plane tickets, unless you happen to get an internet special, but they only apply to the red-eye times, so you're better off getting a normal fare and arriving at your destination at a reasonable time.

Beck, as I said, I started saving this week so if I have enough to make it by then, I will be sure to go. The only thing I'm not looking forward to is the extra long flight. I believe I was told it's over a 12 hr flight.

If I remember correctly from the time I visited the USA, it's more like a 17hr flight from the West Coast of the US.

On the plane, bring some good reading material like the WT & A! - that will send you off to sleep in no time!

LOL@ Prisca. I can find much better things to read. The wt and awake wouldn't put me to sleep because I wouldn't make it past the front page before I threw it down.

I think 12 hours is about how long the flight would take because I am on the east coast. North Carolina.
