What Era Would You Like To Have Lived In?

Besides the one we are currently in, I mean.

For me, I feel a strong draw back to the late 1930s and early 1940s. As I get older, I find myself enjoying the Big Band sound even more than I ever did, as well as the movies and radio programs of the era. For some reason, the appeal to that era stops about mid WW2. If I believed in reincarnation, I might think I lived before during that time.

So how about any of the rest of you. Is there a time, other than the present, that you feel fascinated by and feel drawn to?

!920's I would like to live in.

I feel a strong fasination with Egypt in it's splender. Maybe from seeing so much of it on the discovery channel, I don't know . My mother had many books of king tut's treasures when I was a kid. She was kind of into that because her brother is an archaeologist and told her about going there . My mother and I shared alot of the same ideas and we both always fashioned our bedrooms in the victorian style. But wow, the marble floors of Egypt would have been cool to the feet. Maybe we just watched "The Ten Commandments" too much , LOL.

I wish that I had been a teenager during the 80s instead of being a little kid. The 80s just seem really cool to me. Unfortunately, since I'm Black, going much farther into the past just makes it worse and worse for my people, so even though the 20s were roarin', it was mostly that way for White poeple.

I would have loved to have lived as a Native American before North America was even at all slightly tainted with outside influence. When I was younger I would always imagine that I was a Native American living somewhere on the plains or in the forest, heh I even had an imaginary friend named Hiawatha at one point. Their culture and 'oneness' with nature intriuges me. Last summer I was lucky enough to spend 5 weeks 30 miles into the backcountry of Clearwater National Forest without the everyday amenties that we take for granted, though it was tough, I came to love it. I also came to know and love Mother Nature in ways that I only previously claimed to have known and loved.

D.R. do you really think you could have lived at another age? I could have never enjoyed the many activities that I presently engage in, if I lived in the past.

Santacruzchic, My ancestors are native american indians, I hear great stories passed down. Their ways have adapted to fit the mainstream now thou. They still have their pow wows, with full headdress and all, and do their dances and rituals. All of them are Catholic now. But they do mix a little of the old ways with their Catholic religion. It would be interesting to go back in time and visit some of the cultures, but then again that could be a scarey thing too. So even thou I would love walk the ground of Egypt in it's day, I wouldnt want to be a Hebrew slave. I guess if all things were fair and all things just , which has never nor will ever be, many era's had some beauty in them. It is true it would have been a perfect world if everyone were treated the same and just. My people, my ancestors actually owned the land , then they lost it and had to sharecrop it. Today the native american nation have nothing of great value compared to the freedom of the land they had before. So I would also choose to go back in time to when the native american's had the beauty of the land to enjoy, not like it is today. Some societies get stronger as time goes by, some get weaker.

But looking over past eras and years from looking at today, I seriously doubt I would choose this era. It seems very depressing and so many people have no hope.

Guest, I said IF I believed in reincarnation. Saying that I obviously don't believe in it or that I ever lived before. I enjoy my life in the present, but have felt a draw to that time period for many years now. Maybe it just a desire for a simpler time, I don't know. Maybe it is just wishful thinking from seeing too many old movies

D.R. Good morning. What's the matter, can't sleep? My early days of life was spent on the farm, a great experience. Would I go back to it, yes! I enjoyed that life. We always had something to do but not as varied as city life. As to old movies, yeah, that I enjoy. As to IF, no, I've enjoyed both worlds. How many on this forum can say they have lived on a farm and a city life? Be prepared to work if you plan to live on the farm, if not, stay in the city. Would you prefer to milk a cow or go to your local grocery store to have milk? Don't forget, your cow needs to be fed, watered, milked and their stalls cleaned. Now, are you willing to sacrifice your easy living for such a life?

I was raised in the city for awhile and on a farm , right next to the city. We had alot to do. My dad tried to have the best of both worlds and it was too much work for alittle girl. But I loved it. I would trade living in town like I do, to living in a teepee , in the woods anyday. I swear, the anguish of so many bills and what the government makes you do and requires this insurance and this tax. It would be nice if you could really live off of the land , even if you had to have an outhouse and no electricity. I think it would be well worth the peace of mind. I like to watch the home network andhave seen many people move out of their luxury townhomes in the city to rough it out in the woods. They see to no regret the choice, not that it is always easier. If I could go back to my kids being little again, I would be on a farm somewhere. When my hub and I get older and the kids are out of school on their own, I one day wish to go into a semi isolation. Just the old man and our animals. Of course not too far for my kids and grandkids to come see us. It might be close to heaven if they joined us. Being in a suburb neighborhood makes me feel trapped and I love to roam the woods and trails and find isolated places to sit and think , where no one can find me.
