    The Lady of the Lake,...
    [angels sing]
...her arm clad in the purest shimmering samite, held aloft Excalibur from the bosom of the water signifying by Divine Providence that I, Arthur, was to carry Excalibur.
    [singing stops]
That is why I am your king!

Listen. Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.
    ARTHUR:
    Be quiet!
    DENNIS:
Well, but you can't expect to wield supreme executive power just 'cause some watery tart threw a sword at you!
    ARTHUR:
    Shut up!
    DENNIS:
I mean, if I went 'round saying I was an emperor just because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!
    ARTHUR:
Shut up, will you? Shut up!

Edited to add the rest of this magnificent dialog.

So part of the "secret" to becoming an elder is to go out in service and make sure the elders know that you're reaching out. And of course holy spirit is supposed to have something to do with it, right???

    I'm confused,

I'll tell you a little about myself. I have been raised a Witness, am in my mid 40's,and had been an elder since 1980. My family is somewhat still "in" but are becoming more aware of the hypocrisy that is obviously in the organization. I have held nearly every overseer job except service. I was regularly used in circuit and district parts. This year I resigned as an elder and I am trying to work with my family in a step by step manner so as not to overload their senses.Things are working out well. I try to be very patient and I am seeing some fruitage.......

If you were an elder for so many years, why don't you tell us how they are appointed?

: Does anyone have a clue as to how elders actually get appointed?

    Yes.

I think Kenpo and Amazing pretty well nail it.

The first thing we looked at was the field service time. If that was not up to snuff, then nothing else really mattered. Scriptures in 1 Timothy and Titus were almost never read.

That accomplishment in WatchtowerLand is spectacular for a female. How did you manage it?

Twenty two years ago you were anywhere from 23 to 28 according to you. A YOUNG female elder, no less. I'm impressed!

Why do I guess that you are female? It's just a guess. (not accusing you as I cannot prove this.) No guy would ever say he "loved" ME for something I wrote, unless he expected to be busted across the chops. Besides that, your methods and posts are decidedly feminine.

No big deal to me, except if you are a fem, then you are a liar. If you're not, then don't say you "love" ME just because you might like what I say at times. It ain't right. We're total strangers, you and I.

    "Ainse" that the truth?

Geesh, you guys are funny. Farkel, honey, I still love you. You need to get a little love shown to you. It keeps you less angry. I do like the concept of a young female elder, though. It seems that someone else's methods and posts are decidedly feminine. Farky does cry a lot...lol
