Peace seekers aren't looking for an about face from Bush. If you would actually go to a peace rally it is just a chance to be heard. The media and politicians want this war. We here all this political, "my country right or wrong" rhetoric all day long. Some of us are sick of it and would like to see Saddam delt with in a different matter.

And I must emphasize again. NO PROOF has been found to link Saddam to 9/11. There is still NO PROOF that he even has weapons of mass destruction. A couple of empty war heads were found yesterday...say it ain't so!

Do I think Saddam is a bad man? Of course he is. But for myself, and I know others we'd like to see more proof, and even when that proof is found, there have to be other diplomatic ways to take care of this.

If people want to rally and show support for the war, more power to them. Did any of you see how many of them showed up in washington? About 50. So what? Why does it have to be about numbers? It's not. It's about having a chance to disagree and let everyone know, "look, we are not a unified nation on this and we are not all blood thirsty and ready to go to war."

    Aztec,

That's a lefty opinion piece, not a collection of facts. Question your own propensity to treat such ravings as holy writ rather than the right of America's aggrieved people to take steps to ensure their safety in the face of such fanatacism. You've been a Dub - you know that zealots can't be reasoned with. The extremist Arabs have promised that they will continue to seek to repeat the events of S11 until the US converts to Islam. In their eyes America's sin is not being Islamic, not anything that individuals have done. Kinda like the Dub attitude towards those "birdseed" "wordlings" outside the org...

OK,Lets pack up and come home. Then when you are put in harms way don't call on your country to save you from harms way .Ask those opposed to the U.S.A. to save you.Just say to them peace brother, peace and they will put down their weapons of war and give you a big hug and kiss.

Just wondering what all of these people who don't want the USA to act against Iraq and North Korea want to see before they'll ok military action. Do these people understand that the goal is to NOT allow Iraq to get a WMD and to stop NK from making more????

My God what has to happen first, a nuke attack on the US where millions of people die? Don't people understand that this is what dozens of countries around the world would love to see? Screw them! Act now Mr. Bush and stop future terrorists from getting their hands on WMD.

200,000 at the DC rally alone, they showed a counter rally in support of war, I counted 9 people. LOL.

The rally had nothing to do w/ N. Korea. N. Korea is obviously a bigger threat seeing they have a nuclear plant in function and have removed the U.N. cameras from the area. HELLO. I feel they pose a bigger threat than Sadaam right now and I don't understand why the US has all of their focus and attention on Iraq when this is going on. Oh wait, yeah....that obviously proves there's something more to this war than "Sadaam is evil." Can't find WMD but I know he has them! All the while another country is telling us they're making them (more or less) and we want a "diplomatic, non-violent solution" for them...??? Bass-ackwards if you ask me. I know a lot more is at stake in regards to N. Korea, but still...postpone the Iraq thing and focus on the real threat - this should of been worked out already - what are they waiting for? How long do you allow N.K. to have the plant in operation - it only takes weeks for them to install the nuclear rods and get the thing ready to enrich uranium. Bush should be all over that issue but no...he's focused on his personal vandetta. What's going to prevent N. Korea from making a nuke and selling it to Iraq during the war?! If America were to get nuked, I doubt seriously you'd be able to trace it to Iraq.

Knowing our justice system, we'd blame it on Iraq though. Shoot, 15 of the 19 terrorists on the 9/11 attacks from SAUDI ARABIA yet we blamed Osama. GO FIGURE. (Somebody PLEASE tell me I'm not the only one that thinks 9/11 smells fishy). Something happens, Bush blames it on whoever he doesn't like, and instantly the whole world believes him. Now that is power. The threat since 9/11 has been from Al-Qaeda, and the major threat to security in this country is STILL Al-Qaeda, so what blowing up Iraq has to do with that is beyond me. Sadaam encourages suicide bomber families - so what - blowing up his country is not going to stop suicide bombers in Palestine and Israel. Notice there haven't even been that many recently.

Do these people understand that the goal is to NOT allow Iraq to get a WMD

So I thought he already HAS WMD - oh, now we don't want him to GET any...I see. You're so hungry to blow something up you can't even get your supporting facts straight. Sickening.

To restate what has been stated several times already, and what most pro-war people still fail to comprehend (how don't ask me) is that people simply WANT TO SEE MORE EVIDENCE. That's all. That's why the U.N. inspectors are barging into peoples homes in the middle of the night - you know Bush is cussing them out telling them to find evidence or else! :-) Wouldn't surprise me. I gaurantee you evidence will be found - how credible it will be will probably be debatable. Nobody is asking our military to sit back with their thumbs up their ass and do nothing and wait for anyone to blow us up. Just show more proof! What the hell is wrong for wanting more proof? These are the REAL people that totally understand that this country WOULD and WILL fight an unjust war based on the premise that "we're in imminent danger from Sadaam" and they would rather not support a country that will kill innocent civilians over a false premise. And this is the support we get from fellow Americans!

Show more proof and this is a mute issue. Powell said he had pictures that showed proof - release the suckers - let the world see the proof! But no....I haven't seen any pictures, and I've read nothing further about those pictures. Show them to the U.N. for christ sake.

The American culture typically likes to fight. Look at the movies - nobody wants to see a movie where there's no fighting - negotiate - what?? What's that mean? That would be a boring movie. Show me blood and gore. Hence you have Terminator movies, Alien, Fight Club, Lethal Weapon, Blade, James Bond, etc etc et-frikkin-c....fight fight fight. Guns and bombs, guns and bombs.

At the SF protest yesterday, a lady from Iraq got on the mike and basically told the USA to "f*%k off." She went off saying they don't need our help, don't want our help, leave them the hell alone. They can take care of their own problems. *shrugs* Take it for whatever you want, I just found that quite interesting.

    Back,

That's the point. Iraq is NK ten years ago. What if then President Clinton, back in the early '90's, would have taken a harder stance with NK instead of giving into their blackmail? (which NK didn't honor anyway) I believe we wouldn't be facing such a serious threat from NK. Now say for example Bush doesn't take a stand against Iraq, what will mostlikely happen. Iraq will secretly develop nukes just as NK did. And NK did it WITH UN inspectors there! In ten years do you want to be faced with the situation that now NK has nukes on rockets that can hit mainland US and Iraq with nukes that can hit any place in the mid-east and Europe? And what will other rogue nations do? You can bet that Egypt, Syria, Iran, etc. will ignore international pressure to not develop nukes and will soon have their own. It's beginning to look like this will happen if Bush gives in to the pressure of people who think they are doing the right thing.

While any war, fought even for "good" reasons, is a failure for both sides, sometimes it's needed for the greater good.

Let these protestors go to Iraq and protest there. Let them protest Saddam's weapon's program. His disregard for the environment, his human rights violations, his wars of aggression and land grab (attempted), let them protest Saddam's record on civil rights, torture, his use of chemical weapons on his own people. THEN come talk to me. Otherwise, CAN IT.

Being anti-war does not mean being pro-Saddam. George Bush can talk until he's blue in the face about preventing "weapons of mass destruction" (the most overused phrase of the past twelve months, btw) but he isn't fooling anyone. This war is about oil, plain and simple. Instead of spending billions of dollars going to war, why not put that money into the research & developement of fuel-cell technologies? The results will be 1) cleaner environment, which is good for everyone; 2) less reliance on other countries for fuel and less money paid to other countres, and 3) subsequently monies formerly paid to middle-eastern countries for oil will not go to those countries, and their own coffers will be seriously injured as a result. THAT is the way to eliminate middle-eastern oil lords.

As much as the US likes to consider themselves the most powerful country in the world, they are so interdependant on other countries that they could not survive if trade with those countries was suddenly suspended. Why not work towards greater self-sufficiency?

Why not? Because George Bush is dumb as a f***ing post, that's why, and has no more sense of the broad picture than a 5" tv screen.

Yeah, that must be it. Of course this is so obvious because after the first Gulf War the US went in and took over the oil reserves....oh wait a minute....

I'm not going to sit here and say that Bush is a Boy Scout or that the US doesn't have an interest in a stable mid-east but this "war for oil" idea is just plain stupid.
