Let these protestors go to Iraq and protest there. Let them protest Saddam's weapon's program. His disregard for the environment, his human rights violations, his wars of aggression and land grab (attempted), let them protest Saddam's record on civil rights, torture, his use of chemical weapons on his own people. THEN come talk to me. Otherwise, CAN IT.

Ahh, are you aproving of a dictatorship type mantality? You want us to shut up, dictators do the same thing, poor baby, can't take the heat. Man with the brain power of a chipmunk, none of this has been done to US citizens.

The extremist Arabs have promised that they will continue to seek to repeat the events of S11 until the US converts to Islam

True, but they are no more dangerous to us than the KKK (extremist 'christians', if you will - the direct parallel to the extremist 'muslims' the Al-Qaeda is).

Extremists can only reach out and attack us, like they did, if they can convince at least SOME of their population that their position is justified.

Yes, no matter what we do, there will always be Muslims who will hate the US no matter what. Just as, no matter what blacks or Muslims do, there will be KKK members who hate them no matter what.

But, unless we are feeding their position by our actions, a small vocal minority cannot hurt us. People of minority have proven time and time again in this country the KKK is wrong, and so the population of the US as a whole does not support them or believe them, and are CERTAINLY not willing to die for them.

The same will happen in Muslim countries if groups like the Taliban/Al-Qaeda/extremists are proven wrong time and time again about Westerners. The problem is, we AREN'T proving them wrong. We are doing to them exactly what the Taliban/Al-Qaeda/extremists is telling them we are doing.

Let these protestors go to Iraq and protest there.

    You Iraqi?

I'm not, so I'm just wondering what you think gives you the right to decide how other countries should be run, or the right to try and affect change in them.

Here in the Rogue Valley with a population of about 177,000 people the protestors claimed they had 500 show up for their ralley and peace walk. But the news coverage and photos in the paper showed about 100 at the most. It started in a college town where you are most likely to get the most support on this issue.

When I was in college I would attend almost every protest as hot babes showed up for that stuff. It was a great way to connect.

I doubt it has much of an effect on anything. We all know what's going down very soon. We get to elect our leaders in our nation but you'll never elect anyone that runs on a peace program. With a very unpopular war going on in Nam the peace candidates still got their asses kicked in the elections. And even had they been elected I doubt much could have been done differently. Policitians seem to have little control over the direction of things. Makes you wonder who's running the show doesn't it?

There was a peace rally in my town as well. It's kinda like a social event.

I favor peace. But I want a long term sustainable peace over a short term wishful peace only enjoyed by Americans. When you look at Saddam Huesain some facts immediatly jump off the page.

    1) Saddam, as a matter of policy, tortures and imprisons thousands of people each year. His is the only government on Earth that has on the payroll a "violator of the honor of women" - a rapist - as a legitimate job designation. The Iraqi people are subjigated by a paranoic fear of torture. UN human rights reported on many of his systematic human autrocities.

    2) Saddams weapons program (prior to inspectors being kicked out in 94') produced enough biological weapons (Anthrax & Botulin) to kill EVERYONE on Earth 3x over. It is estimated that UN inspectors destroyed ~50% of his capability in this area in 1994.

    3) Saddam has aggressively persued LONG RANGE missile technology - purchasing and hiding sophisticated missile guidence systems. He also successfully doubled the range of his SCUD missiles and fitted them with chemical/biological dispersion warheads.

    4) British Intelligence has reported that Saddam produced multiple mobile Bioweapons labs using RV type vehicles equiped with portable labs.

    5) Saddam duplicated and improved upon the isotopic seperation devices used to seperate fissile (nuclear weapons grade) materials. It is a known fact that Saddam has attempted to buy enriched Uranium, Smallpox, and the means to deliver them.

Peace for the US does NOT mean peace for Iraqi's.

Question for all peace advocates.... I truly respect your cause, but it seems to offer no solutions. What is the solution to the obvious present/future threat of this meglomaniac? Diplomacy has an 11 year history of failure.

    This is getting really DUMB.

The same points keep getting re-hashed and re-hashed, over and over and over again, and the people that don't agree with amazingly seem to breeze over them, and then turn around and ask the same question all over again.

I don't know how much simpler I can put it:

The people that are protesting the war are NOT pro-Sadaam or pro-Iraq. They don't like Sadaam any more than you do. They realize his history. They understand what has happened in the country and is still happening. The only difference between them and you is that the protestors would rather see MORE EVIDENCE that there are WMD.

What is so stinking difficult to understand about that? This is what the WHOLE WORLD is asking for! You don't go and prosecute and murderer on heresay, do you? Without proof it automatically questions the motive.

This isn't difficult to understand, and I don't understand why we, as mature adults, are still not understanding each other. I know everyone has their own political viewpoints, that's understandable, but all this is about is more PROOF. Is that too much to ask for? Is it unreasonable to ask for?

    Roybatty,

Yeah, that must be it. Of course this is so obvious because after the first Gulf War the US went in and took over the oil reserves....oh wait a minute....

I'm not going to sit here and say that Bush is a Boy Scout or that the US doesn't have an interest in a stable mid-east but this "war for oil" idea is just plain stupid.

Why do leaders from other countries think it's about oil too? They're dumb too i guess, and you have everything figured out.
