Changing your name doesn't disconnect you from the Watchtower, the past, or anything else legally and their legal department would know that so they would not make a name change so it distances them from the Watchtower. It doesn't. That's not how things work in the legal system.
This is one of those crazy rumors that never materialize. Often people here try to rationalize what the organization would do using their own train-of-thought. You have to think like a JW to know what they would do. And anything that came out of a multiple translation conversation is not at all reliable.

Something to ponder on , Witnessing and preaching is the organization self created marketing of itself.
Which of course is strongly connected the Watchtower Corporation Publishing house.
They aren't just simple worshipers of Jehovah, they are witnessing and preaching of the gospel as it were.
I see the JWorg. being a bit unstable right now, its dealing with pedophile cases, the old doctrines such this generation, mankind living in the last days etc. The selling off of so many of the WTS branches around the world and maybe to a certain extent the exposure the organization is getting on the inter-net .
One could say the WTS/JWS is going through a kind of reformation, some by force and maybe a bit of necessity, to maintain whatever members it has and uphold the self supporting proclamation that God has really chosen them above all others.
Which an organization that was grown and was built upon is vitally important, perhaps more so than the doctrines themselves.
