Let it be realized that JWS will try to make particular assertions like Armageddon is coming soon as a means to induce fear into family members that have not attended meetings for awhile or have been DFed.
Fear is a major underlining component the WTS uses to lure people to its organization to be eventually exploited and manipulated to their own self serving means.

Back when Fred Franz was crafting the WTS' End-Times script, it was the height of the Cold War, so many components of said script seemed a lot more plausible, especially for anyone with right-wing leanings, because the UN Charter was drafted partly by Europeans with socialist leanings.
You're right though; these days, the UN Security Council barely has the clout to enforce resolutions protecting religious freedoms, let alone marshal a planet-wide campaign to supress them. :smirk:

Oh yes! 1960 through 1990 much better fitted the WT claims of the time.
Cuba/Vietnam/Biafra/Cold War/Gemini and Apollo Moon Landing (Signs in the Sun and stars)/Generation that saw 1914/King of the North and South with their earth destroying nuclear missiles. Ten toes of the image of Nebuchadnezzer having the strength of iron and the fragility of clay - Student uprisings in Paris, Czech revolt (Prague Spring), Power outages and Miner's strikes in Britain. Berlin Wall coming down (here comes the peace and security!) Made sense to me.
And all those good solid elders that were forged during this time are the last bastion of the WT. How old are they now? mid - late 50's are the youngest, but more likely 60's 70's 80's and dead! (Or resigned.)

Because I did not expect the call, so I did not write any references to the biblical prophecies. She was jumping from Daniel to Ezekiel, Gog & Magog, etc. I absolutely do not care about prophecies, as nobody can predict future 2500 years ahead.
