I think we're starting in the wrong place here.

Firstly, establish if the bible is actually a holy book. Why should it be of any more value than the quran or martian chronicles.

Given that the the bibles writers were jewish and lived in paliestine its easy to see why their writtings were centered on those topics. Nothing much to see here.

@EoM - I don't think you or me need worry about Israel or biblical claptrap.

The Jews won the Arab-Israeli war and so have a right to exist in the Levant (to the victor, the spoils). They are surrounded by racist Arab nations but have a strong army, sophisticated anti-missile defense mechanisms and nuclear weapons.
