College made it possible for me to get a career in a field I liked, work with people who I like to work with, and make more money.
I don't think it is for everybody, but for me it was a good move and well worth the time and expense.

If you even want to bring a conservative speaker on campus... good luck
Conservative in what way ?
There is no right or left political ideologies within intellectual honest scientific endeavor .
I graduated in 2007. In the US. Two years of community college and three years at university. In California at that, the bastion of liberals. Never felt lefty pressure. I was an ex JW returning to school in my forties. Perhaps I ignored the politics of the day then. I'd like to think I was aware. Sure there were left leaning student groups and protests but no more than before. The staff were very careful to hide their bias. There were just as many "Young Republicans" at the same time.
They aren't hiding their bias these days -- it's unreal. It was liberal late 60s in the bay area (Viet Nam protests and I didn't have problem choosing sides then - hated that war!) where I attended but I loved it - then. Now I prefer a more balanced view.
Minimus you comments are always so insanely right wing you seem like you could be a GB member yourself.
I think that a good high school education is better than a bad college education. Meaning, if a person learns in HS how to research and find what they are looking for, they are ahead of the curve. If a person values what the world's great minds have put into books, he has a jump start that no college degree can match.
Having said that, having a degree opens doors that stay shut for those who don't have one.
I have two Bachelors degrees - I only ran across one professor who would retaliate for disagreement. Ironically it was a lower level elective in Women’s Studies.
My degrees are in the Finance/Business area and all other professors were quite open to dissent.
I don’t think a degree is all that, but I do think it should be your choice to go to college or not. My education has served me well and allows me a good standard of living free of financial stress. It also helped me to question things I am told - basically the opposite of what the Watchtower preaches.
I tried my hand at Brain Surgery, by my lack of a degree kept me from getting my foot in the door.
Bastard Liberals!
A college degree can help to open some doors. That being said, much of what I learned to get my bachelor's degree was not helpful in the real world. Education needs to be streamlined. Why should doctors need to learn about literature or history? Same for accountants or other career fields. Lots of wasted time. We could have more doctors (that are desperately needed) if they only were required to learn the things in their field.
A well rounded education is necessary for a good education. Yes, the specialties are needed, but not to the exclusion of learning about history, government, science, math, English. They all come into play in your life regardless of what you eventually choose to focus your studies on.
That being said, a determined person can get that well rounded education without attending a college class. Reading, and traveling, working and learning to lead are all things that can get you a well rounded education without attending the university. It takes a LOT of self determination, goal setting, hard work, and time.
