Why do you try to minimize what TR said? Your almost snide remark (how I interpereted it) pissed me off immediately.

Life goes on. Yeah, I suppose so. If it was not for thinkers and people who were able to come up with resoned arguments against the JW cult then all we would have left now are a sorry bunch of cry babies.

This situation kind of reminds me of a battle between 2 soldiers where the white knight slays the black knight. Then the white knight is smitten with an unknowable disease (a foe he cannot fight). The white knight dies and then the maggots move in and suck all the remaining goodness from his flesh.

What happens when all the flesh is gone? Then the maggots die too.

Yes, I've certainly benefitted from this site, even tho not a JW. I've appreciated seeing that deep inside the shell of witnesses there is actually been a normal human being! I really feel great when reading a newbie's story of how s/he got free! In a world of bad news, stuff like that warms my heart.

It's hard for me to sympathize with the Old Guard here; things change, and they will certainly change again --and again. I'm sure I'll probably be in their shoes, given time. In the meantime, I hope that they will be using their creative juices to entice us with interesting topics to debate.

I have to agree with TR on this one I have been a long time observer on the jw websites including the old "witnet "one. I really miss the good old H2O days. Those days are what really helped me .Also Randy's and Kent's. I think that most of the threads here (including the beloved mini's) are wallowing in the mire. Sorry guys :-( I include myself in this bath too. I have a low tolerence for fluff though .I dont watch any sitcoms on the tely either. So maybe it is just me. I hope others get what they need here.

Shoot, we're getting all warm and fuzzy now. My wife doesn't like these boards too much -- she's the remarkable sort of ex-JW who has actually moved on with her life without all kinds of weird hang-ups.

Sorry if I have misinterpreted your intent here, but I think this kind of comment ignores those who came out of the Borg due to their own thinking powers, especially those who left without the aid of the internet. Not everyone came out due to some wonderful, brilliant essay that some guy wrote and pasted on the 'net. Some came out due to coming to conclusions on their own (incredulous as it may seem), perhaps reading the Bible on its own, or studying evolution, or just through observations or experiences whilst in the Borg.

Thanks for adding that. You do make a great point because that is exactly what happened to me. I "left" first and then I discovered the "apostate" web sites.

The problem I have is that moderation has killed the freedom of speech. While I agree with some type of control when the flame wars are errupting, I feel as though petty moderation has been something which has killed the interest/desire for many to post here any longer.

Take two examples:

JWO: there is zero moderation and the site is a wasteland. It is filled with Nazi Bullcrap(I would have liked to use the S word) and flamewars are the thing of the day every day.

Then take Kent's board: There is little to no moderation of cuss words that etc, however there is moderation of flamewars etc. While the board does not have huge membership the quality and depth of the posts is the highest I have seen on any board in the last year.

I am of a changed opinion. Moderation is needed but censorship is not.

What has happened is that people who liked to attack others and 'win' arguments just by being aggressive no longer are able to carry on such behavior. With this removed, they often look mediocre at best and frequently unable to take part in reasoned debate of which there is plenty.

There is very, very little that people aren't allowed to post and in fact that hasn't been posted. The main thing is personal attacks and illegal activity.

JWO is an example of why no moderation doesn't work. It rarely (never?) has and rarely will. It obviously doesn't appeal to too many people.

As for other sites, things are easy to run when they are small and frequently have a small goup of close-knit and like-minded people but are a bit more challenging when there is a very large and diverse group.

and Simon, that's why this place is better than ever. They are no longer able to carry on this behavior. It seems there's more and more newbies coming on board. You must be doing something right!
