I think Mormon theology is pretty cool. I love their ritual, baptism for the dead, celestial marriage, cool stuff. I like their 'ternal progression'notion too. Of course, I could never join because i wont be directed. Im not being told that I HAVE to pay 10 percent of my wages, nor am I being told I HAVE to attend this / that society meeting or spend all day Sunday in church hall. If it wasnt so organized and structured Id be interested.

I am surprised that there are ex-JWs here that would almost like to be Mormon. IMO Mormon beliefs are even more "out there" than JW beliefs. The BoM is not backed at all by archaeology, it contradicts the bible in places, and yet according to Mormons it is a "higher source" than the bible.

I personally don't have a problem with most JW doctrine. It all sounds reasonable, the problem doesn't lie in any 'out there' theories of theirs. The problem lies in the fact that they have no backing for these theories from a book they claim is pure, and the last written word of God. But, beyond that, I have a problem with their many many failed Prophecies and their hypocrisy. I don't have a problem with their BoM contradicting the Bible either, and I always held the opinion that the Bible has been ripped apart to such a degree, it's hard to tell what's up and what's down in it. Besides the fact that the Bible contradicts itself. The Bible is not pure, newsflash for anyone that believes it is. We've seen in our own lifetime that it's been hacked to death (NWT). So if God can't, or chose not to protect it from these Watchtower Hackers, what makes us think he has for the last several centuries? As for archaeology, there are some things that back up BoM teachings, but it's true that there aren't many. But then again, archaeology contradicts the Bible constantly as well.

Don't get me wrong: Mormons are GREAT people. Very nice, loving, even to non-members (unlike the JWs).

    Some JWs are loving :)

If you want to be a Mormon for social reasons, great. But their religious views are really whacked and not based on any sort of fact. (Mainstream Christianity isn't either, I guess, but it's not as bad...) Just my opinion....

The thing is, if Christ came to us now and sorted out the Bible for us, and explained the right and wrong in it, we'd throw him in the loonie bin. I believe that when Christ does come and do this, his side of the story will be MUCH different than any Christian religion on the face of the earth presently. Unless of course the Mormons are correct, and Christ DID come in the 1800's. Maybe he did, maybe he didn't, I don't have a clue, I wasn't there.

Also, their 'out there' views make MUCH more sense to me than any I've heard from any other religion, and I've checked out a good many of them. Even still, I am not a Mormon (I know they hate that term), and that goes more along the lines of what RF had to say above. I do ask myself this question though from time to time: If it were judgment day, and I had several doors to choose from to walk through, all labeled with the religions of the world, which one would I open. And the answer is "LDS" every time. Problem is, it might be too late then, but it's a chance I take for selfish freedom. Rev ---------- LambsRoar.org

Since Mormons now accept blacks into the priesthood, has this had an impact on black conversions? Anyone know? I can't imagine many joining prior to this new revelation.

it's had a huge impact. Not only is it the fastest growing religion worldwide, it's the fastest growing religion in the black community. I just read a newspaper article on it. And, not only that, but blacks make up the largest converts of the sect as well, if I read the article correctly.

I also wanted to mention that the blacks were never segregated in their Churches, even through the segregation era. When JWs claim that the KH's were segregated by law, don't believe them because the Mormons never did it and they weren't bothered.

Thank you Rev. You are very knowledgeable about Mormonism, so I guess I will ask you. I remember reading something years ago about the Mountain Meadows Massacre. Are you familiar with it? What is the Mormon Church's official stance on what happened there?

So let me get this straight... if they had backing for their actions/beliefs from one of their books that they claim is pure, it would be ok? Mormons invent a book and since they believe it is pure, their actions based on such a book are noble?

I fully agree that the bible is full of contradictions. I don't believe it is inspired. (Actually I don't even believe in god.) But I'm curious as to why you are able to put so much faith in the BoM when it has been torn apart by critics.

    Just curious...

I have to be quick but to touch on the Mountain Meadows thing real quick. Supposedly there was a letter written from SLC, by BY that told the local Mormons to leave the travelers alone. They didn't, they did horrible horrible things to these people. But it's a back and forth debate between Mormons and anti-Mormons.

I'll post some info on it a bit later tonight.

drwtsn32, that's not what I meant by that, but I'll post later on that as well. Rev ---------- LambsRoar.org

Okay, Okay, I could not handle being away from you stiffs. (LOL)

I`m just not going to argue with those of you who are cruel.

Now on to the Mormon thing, I am an ex mormon I was excommunicated for fornication when I was 19 . Went to the Bishop to get married to the girl I got pregnant. He offered to marry us and the next thing I knew I got a letter in the mail telling me I was to be removed for the fornication. I told them to kiss my ass. But not long ago I did a remodeling job for a person who was a Mormon, I told him I was ex Mormon. He still treated me like I was just any ol Joe so I asked him why that was. Because I expected him to treat me like crap Right? Nope he said that they do not practice shunning that they believed that by showing love to that person removed that it would bring them back. Talk about being stunned ! Whamo! Hell I figured that them being a cult they would be the same as the JW`s but no they do know the true meaning of loving thy neighbors...

    KGB is Back WOOOOOHOOOOOOOOO
