DannyBear,
There does seem to be a lot of similarities between the Mosaic Law and the Islamic Law.
A little information about The Mosaic Law (The Law of Moses):
According to the Torah, the Law was given to Moses directly by YHWH God:
Leviticus 26:46: These are the statutes and judgments and laws, which the LORD [YHWH] made between him and the children of Israel in mount Sinai by the hand of Moses.
Exodus 19:16-19: And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of the trumpet exceeding loud; so that all the people that was in the camp trembled. And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet with God; and they stood at the nether part of the mount. And mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because the LORD [YHWH] descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly. And when the voice of the trumpet sounded long, and waxed louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God answered him by a voice.

Some Interesting Commandments of the Law of Moses:
Deuteronomy 17:2-13: If there be found among you, within any of thy gates which the LORD [YHWH] thy God giveth thee, man or woman, that hath wrought wickedness in the sight of the LORD [YHWH] thy God, in transgressing his covenant, And hath gone and served other gods, and worshiped them, either the sun, or moon, or any of the host of heaven, which I have not commanded; And it be told thee, and thou hast heard of it, and inquired diligently, and, behold, it be true, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought in Israel: Then shalt thou bring forth that man or that woman, which have committed that wicked thing, unto thy gates, even that man or that woman, and shalt stone them with stones, till they die.
At the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses, shall he that is worthy of death be put to death; but at the mouth of one witness he shall not be put to death. The hands of the witnesses shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterward the hands of all the people. So thou shalt put the evil away from among you.
If there arise a matter too hard for thee in judgment, between blood and blood, between plea and plea, and between stroke and stroke, being matters of controversy within thy gates: then shalt thou arise, and get thee up into the place which the LORD [YHWH] thy God shall choose; And thou shalt come unto the priests the Levites, and unto the judge that shall be in those days, and inquire; and they shall show thee the sentence of judgment: And thou shalt do according to the sentence, which they of that place which the LORD [YHWH] shall choose shall show thee; and thou shalt observe to do according to all that they inform thee: According to the sentence of the law which they shall teach thee, and according to the judgment which they shall tell thee, thou shalt do: thou shalt not decline from the sentence which they shall show thee, to the right hand, nor to the left.
And the man that will do presumptuously, and will not hearken unto the priest that standeth to minister there before the LORD [YHWH] thy God, or unto the judge, even that man shall die: and thou shalt put away the evil from Israel. And all the people shall hear, and fear, and do no more presumptuously.

Here are some of the things that I know of in which the Death Penalty was applied to under the Mosaic Law:
* Worshiping anyone or anything other than YHWH.
* Blaspheming or Cursing YHWH's Name.
* Murder.
* Bearing False Witness.
* Adultery.
* Smiting or Cursing your Parents.
* Striking a pregnant woman, and causing the unborn child to die.
* Intentionally eating the blood of an animal that was killed by humans.
* Sacrificing your children.
* Incest.
* Homosexual acts.
* Having sex with animals.
* Breaking the Sabbath.
* Rape.
* Being involved with Spiritism and the Occult.
However, I believe God DID NOT authorize all of the individual Jews to go around and kill just anyone from the nations just because they did not believe in their God.
There were definitely occasions where God condemned certain people and certain nations, and at that time, commanded that those people and nations be destroyed.
And, if I am not mistaken, each time that God had certain nations destroyed, was because of their wicked acts, such as rape and molestation and child-sacrifice, or because that nation was fighting against the Jews.
Also, if you believe what the Bible says about the Jews destroying certain nations, then why not believe what the Bible says about God commanding them to do so? I think people should either believe what the Bible says, or don't believe anything it says.
When Jesus Christ [YHWH in the Flesh] came, He told everyone what the Mosaic Law was meant to be:
Matthew 5:17: "Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to abolish, but to fulfill.
Matthew 7:12: Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, thus also you do to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.
Matthew 5:43-48: "You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor, and you shall hate your enemy.' But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you, so that you may prove to be sons of your Father in Heaven; because He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and He sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet your friends only, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the tax collectors do so? You therefore be perfect, just as your Father in Heaven is perfect.
Matthew 22:35-40: Then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying, "Teacher, which is the Great Commandment in the Law?" Jesus said to him, " 'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.' This is the first and Great Commandment. And the second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' On these two Commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets."
John 8:2-11: And early in the morning, He came again into the Temple, and all the people came to Him; and having sat down, He began to teach them. Then the scribes and Pharisees brought to Him a woman who had been caught in adultery, and having stood her in the midst, they said to Him, "Teacher, we found this woman committing adultery, in the very act. Now Moses, in our Law, commanded to cast stones at such. Therefore what do You say?" But this they said, testing Him, that they might have an accusation against Him. But Jesus, stooping down, began to write on the ground with His finger, not taking notice. And while they were continuing questioning Him, rising up, He said to them, "He who is without sin among you, let him be the first to cast a stone at her." And again He stooped down and wrote on the ground. And they who heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning with the oldest, even to the last: And Jesus was left alone, and the woman being in the midst. And standing up and seeing no one but the woman, Jesus said to her, "Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?" She said, "No one, Lord." And Jesus said to her, "Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more."
