Now the American tactic was to attack the building using over 200 soldiers, bomb the crap out of it for a few hours and then on the third attempt, got inside and killed the remaining live targets (the ones that weren't killed by the missiles)
Hey, it worked -- don't knock it. Same redneck principle as fishing: lob a few sticks of dynamite into the lake/pond/puddle, and then scoop up the fish.

why the need for comparing the supposed british tactics with the u.s. tactics in some sort of "we are better" way? i remember a british poster going on about how even though he was against the war, at least the british had more p.c. names given to their missions, or something of that sort.....and i remember thinking, why the constant need for an intercontinental pissing contest? is everything about who is "better"? its funny, these are the same people carrying on about how americans are too nationalistic/patriotic.

The US Doctrine on war is OVERWHELMING FORCE. These guys had a chance to surrender, we figured if we could get them without any of ours dying GREAT. Ya gotta remember too, the second floor of this building was reinforced...bullet proof glass, etc. Even after all the bombing, there was still a guy alive in there.
There's overwhelming force and there's taking the piss.
Perhaps you could give us a military analysis of when the former becomes the latter.

the two are no loss for human society and since they were fireing it is logical that they got eliminated. to execute them would have been not ok however.
