About the Satan thing, I kinda understand that going the "opposite" direction would make you feel great. It was my first instinct about twenty years ago. But the more I studied history and culture, I realized that "satan" was just another borrowed deity. Look up "the green man" or "forest god" or "pan" or "pagan deity"... you will find out some interesting things... most importantly that these deities do NOT represent what Christianity made them out to be.
Just take your time with the whole "devil" concept. You will find that your "brainwashing" that you mentioned is not limited to JW's.
In short New... the devil is another fairy tale, created to instill fear in those who are easily deceived. Without him... the JW's could not thrive. Without the "devil" they would have nothing to blame their problems on. If you become a "devil-worshipper" you will end up looking just as silly as those who are afraid of it. Just take your time. With any organized religion... there are always people with their own motives. Study the history of religions, and gods. You are free now to learn some real history... take advantage of it

IMO, people could be attracted to Satanism as a religion because of being abused by Satanists or experiencing other ritual abuse as children

It really depends on what form of satanism. The form that just does all the catholic masses backwards is just plain retarded, IMO. I actually got to meet Anton Lavey, the gut who started the church of satan. and they don't even believe in "satan" per se, but hedonism. He seemed to have his head on pretty straight. Also a first rate theremin player, I hear. But, also, all religion is a big joke, imhfo. I personally like the norse religion, because in their armageddon mythos, everybody dies, no new order, nothing, just one kickass nightfall war. The racist overtones of modern "Odinism" are bullshit, so look out.

Personally, I have not gone from worshipping Jehovah to worshipping Satan. I tend to agree with Maverick that Jehovah (at least the Witness version) = Satan. Jehovah is pretty mean, petty, and self-centered.
I have nothing again living for oneself -- as long as one does not run roughshod over others, which is what the JW religion does to many. Pursuing one's own dreams, setting one's own personal goals and striving to make them come true is great -- gives life purpose, and a purposeful life is usually a happy one.
I wish you happiness in whatever you pursue.

depends on what you define as Satanism. LaVey's Satanism was atheism and personal empowerment based on the idea that a proud and beautiful archetype 'Satan' would shock the be-geezus out of the mainstream religion at the time. It had nothing to do with what is called Satanism today with Luciferians and Setians and other groups who worship a Deity they associate with the Biblical Satan.
I recommend you start at the beginning if you are interested in Satanism and go get a copy of The Satanic Bible and The Satanic Witch. you will see they are not what you might think they are. and even if you decide to become a Luciferian or devil-worshipper atleast you will know how to answer the ones who WILL give you $h!t by being educated in the origins of your chosen path. email me if you want to.
