I watched as my husbands almost 30 years old cousin had a whirlwind engagement to a brother from central America. The engagement lasted a couple months then he backed out of the engagement. She was devastated, and it has been at least six years, she has dated no one since. She special pioneered in Central America a few years back and became quite ill. I don't even know what is happening with her now, as no one in the family discusses her, and she doesn't come around anymore. I believe she is horribly depressed. She is in her 30's now. Still works in childcare last I heard ( You know, flexibility and low skill set required and all). She was inappropriately home-schooled with no importance put on the excitement of learning material. She is a sweet, kind girl that has since her mind 20's been putting on pounds. I think she is still living at home.

@TD and @prologos [Sorry for the initial misunderstanding]
Acceptance=> Age, physical attributes, educational background (i.e., high school diploma and some basic adult education courses sufficient enough for the sister to get temporary/part time employment in order for her to pioneer), male family members (i.e., elders, MS, Bethelites, etc. Also, these male members have to have a comfortable financial standing--possibly to help them out when the going gets rough/tough, etc.).
Rejection=> The same first three (3) reasons. Re: educational background (i.e., college and post-graduate degrees; some brothers are "funny" if some sisters have taken some college courses to enhance their own employment); no male family members in the org or living (i.e., if there are some, these are are non-dubs). Concerning the financial standing of the male family members: If they don't have a comfortable income to help these brothers out, then some have passed these sisters of the above families by.

You mentioned that the JW men seem to want the pretty faces and thin waists. The JW's are all about appearances.
[Reminding me of: HIDDLESWIFT (Actor Tom Hiddleston is age 35; Singer Taylor Swift is 26--just citing an example,which is very popular in the news nowadays.)]

I've seen behind indiscriminate speak of JWS woman who are single in their middle age as being too unloving to other JWS men, too picky, being too choosy, too stubborn, too self absorbed.
It also has to be said in most JWS congregations there is lack of single middle aged available men.

need all the help they can get, viagra even, and nothing gives an uplifting experience than a sustained vision, warm touch of your first love's likeness, like it or not.

FINKELSTEIN:
I remember being told I was "too picky" and "too choosy" because I didn't go for anybody there....They must think that only men should be choosy.
I remember one sister once saying that the brothers had "pick of the litter", meanwhile sisters had "ugly goons" to choose from. Well, some sisters aren't settling for ugly goons! They'd rather be alone or look for somebody appealing outside the JW religion!

good for them, the right thing to do! it would be a very very depressing, horrible life to be hitched to someone you loathe. It is different if a couple has aged together, are real soul mates., a wonderful union of matched devotion.

@LHG I have to wholeheartedly agreed with you regarding settling. IMHO: Being married to someone who you can't stand to touch you, to me, is like being married/conjoined to an enemy or a criminal (in fact, one sister remarked "to a rapist"). I couldn't see myself in that situation--not that I'm real picky, but I rather be very blissfully happy with someone I love, instead of being desperate because the pickins are slim and giving consideration to what others feel about my personal choices. That's why I have stayed single for this long in my life. Sisters, we do have choices!

Re: educational background (i.e., college and post-graduate degrees; some brothers are "funny" if some sisters have taken some college courses to enhance their own employment);
"Some college courses" is almost a euphemism if we're talking about post graduate degrees, don't you think?
Seriously, this is a miserably patriarchal religion that frowns on secondary education regardless of gender. I've never known a JW with an advanced degree myself, but I can easily imagine that an educated female would make graduates of the "window washer" university uneasy.
