4. The general Dumbing down of the message ( whatever the message really is , because no J.W. seems to have any clear idea what it is )
5. The boring meetings hashing over the same old , same old stuff, that they have heard thousands of times before , and still the end is just around the corner.

When an Elder visited a young guy I know and asked why he had stopped associating, the young fella said to the Elder, who repeated this to me verbatim :
" Because it's all a load of bollocks" .
I think that a good proportion of young JW's realise the truth of this.
I don't think kids are leaving at a higher rate today - the rate has been pretty consistently well over 50%, maybe even much higher, for decades.
So, to answer the question, "why do kids leave" in general, one primary reason is that the organization really offers nothing to them.
Despite the WTS lip service about the "best life ever", most kids aren't stupid. The prospect of 60 or 70 years of knocking on doors of empty houses as a pioneer, or living in squalid conditions as a missionary or "need-greater", or a lifetime of ever-increasing pressure to "do more" as a MS or elder, a lifelong boring routine of the same old talks given over and over and over and over over and over and over and over over and over and over and over over and over and over and over again, decade after decade, is a horrifying vision.
The smart ones leave. The stupid stick around and perpetuate the system.

When a young kid in the JW religion tries to extrapolate their life, what conclusions can they make?
If this religious nonsense is making you miserable at 10, how will you feel after investing another 1/2 century into it?
It is a very powerful thing to be able to express your doubts and have them confirmed.
To know you're not the only one having them. To know there are indeed some very good reasons you're harboring doubts then way you do.
And then, someone a little further ahead of you on the curve says 'I know how you feel...I've learned 'this', and 'THIS', and 'that'...'
And then it's only a matter of time...
Definitely the internet.

I don't see a huge exodus of young people. Believe or not the young jw's are having loads of fun. Many are world travellers (under the guise of going where the need is great). Service is a joke. I see pictures of groups of these kids standing with their carts and having a great socialization with each other.
When I was growing up , there was a lot of the young population that left or got disfellowshipped, but I have not seen one young person being disfellowshipped . At least not in my area.
