    @ smiddy:

That is an excellent point. What exactly is the message anymore? If I were to put 100 witnesses on the spot and ask them what the message is, 99 of them would stutter before giving you a vague, head-scratching response.

In addition to the above, I believe that the general dumbing down of the message and the lack of "deep Biblical discussion" has resulted in a generation of tablet-clickers who just don't get it the way we did.

Growing up, I used to love the Tuesday Group study with the old books that "explained" prophecy . I could spend hours with Bibles and the Aid Book (thanks Ray Franz) It took a long time to look things up so I remembered them . Today it is all to easy and they only discuss the "milk" not "solid food.....No wonder they leave....

From my experience with my kids:

    1. Embarrassed to tell classmates about being a witness, even at a young age.

    2. Internet.

    3. School teaching critical thinking.

    4. Me working my ass off to make sure they didn't fall prey to the WTS.

Internet is killing recruitment from "field service"--and likely has some impact on children of JWs. Of course, these youngsters might be instilled by fear of "apostate" websites while young.

I only wish I'd this much access to information growing up in the 80's. All I had was what was in my parent's "theocratic library" or what was on their bookshelf. Of course, when I became an "unbaptized publisher", I was only 8. I don't remember making that decision or really understanding JW beliefs, like 1914, the Generation, the Faithful Slave. I doubt I could've understood or explained these things.

Yes, bluesbrother, I am taken with how much JW young ones appear to comfortably inhabit two worlds: That of the kingdom hall (mouthing all the right things) and that of the world (good paying jobs, bedding down for the longer term, less "theocratically" driven, superficial "spirituality").

Young ones see what the rest of us see in 'Paradise':

    (1) Low meeting attendance.

    (2) Countless separations, divorces and children in the middle of custody battles.

    (3) Fewer baptisms taking place at conventions and assemblies.

    (4) Negative and unfavorable JW and WT publicity on the internet.

    (5) The rise of suicides among JWs.

    (6) The love of money and greed among the Governing Body.

    (7) The harshness, dullness and boredom of JW worship.

    (8) The inability to defend their faith anylonger.

The explanation is clear as to what is causing many JW youth to wake-up!
