Has The Internet REALLY Hurt Jehovah's Witnesses?

In one way I'm new here but not really as I've been following along for months. This subject got me thinking though. I'd guess 99.9 per cent of you were already out of the org. or well on your way when you got involved on the net, let alone this site. That doesn't particularly look like the net will draw anyone out that isn't already predisposed. You'd have to be questioning your beliefs to even be here as the WTS frowns on these sites.

Excellent thread I learned so much on the internet that I couldn't wait to write my da letter. I was so happy to know that my doubts were about real stuff and not my lack of holy spirit or lack of waiting on Jehovah.

Even a Jw who curiously stumbles on these sites will become knowledgable after reading only a few posts.

Really what helped me was that so many different outcomes for survival are documented on the NET. Some xjws have found Christian faith, others atheism or agnosticism. Most have found new and closer friendships or happy non-borg marriages.

    Thank you xjw-geeks.

I venture a guess, that your 99.9% is way off, and you're going to get a lot of testimony from others that will show such

You'd have to be questioning your beliefs to even be here as the WTS frowns on these sites.

The WTS frowns on a huge chunk of what is available on the internet, not all of it ex-JW sites. That's because there is a lot of information on the net, and not only directly regarding the WTS. Information and knowledge that can get current JWs thinking and asking questions which is bad for the WTS. When they say that you have to be extremely careful about internet usage, what they mean is that there is a whole lot of material that contradicts their view of the world and they want JWs to be very careful not to be exposed to any information that shows that they are wrong.

It's quite one thing for the WTBTS to demonize the Internet when addressing their own ranks, but quite another to dissuade new prospects from having a peek, especially since they've just been given the standard ``don't trust your religious leaders; examine for yourselves-- test, examine, compare" spiel to the unwitting.

    Thanks for the welcome.

The question was, Has the internet hurt the JWs?

I say it has not and will not because only ones who are questioning their faith will even look on the net. Any who are called on and show interest will only have more questions to be answered because of the exposure this and other like sites give the witnesses. Normally they aren't affected either way but will be curious by reading here and will want more information from the JWs. After all, most here are disgruntled ex's with a grudge. If I wanted answers, I'd go to the source.

Sweet Sally, Years ago, before the internet, many JW's questioned the religion and beliefs. But they had no where to go. They stuck around and kept everything bottled up because it was not wise to discuss. Now thousands of persons have a way to ruminate. Believe me, before the net, people had no place to go with their doubts and questions. It would be unwise to think that persons in the "truth" do not have doubts or might question their faith. Elders, Bethelites and CO's rightly question things.

minimus, You have confirmed my point exactly. Those with doubts (question their faith) will come here and be swayed. They likely would have left anyway. The net nowdays may just make it easier to do what they would have done anyway. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, it just is. Those with a firm belief don't need this site or any that are similar.

It would be interesting to hear from ones who left, based on their internet search.
