Has The Internet REALLY Hurt Jehovah's Witnesses?

I think discussion boards would be less effective if we had to say our real names. But, being anonymous gives us the opportunity to really explore ideas and opinions without fear of retribution.

ignorance is strength
It only hurts them in the sense of convincing members who have started to fall away to be convinced that it is not the truth.

Ignorance-----That would suggest that a lot of Witnesses, then, are on their way out.

The fact that the WTS is continuously demonizing the Internet (and the media) proves the Internet is drawing more and more people away from the WTS. The fact that JWs still have up sites like purelanguage.net, jwzone.org, jwmatch.com, and others shows that there are many JWs not being obedient. They are likely candidates for enlightenment to the untruths the WTS has been telling.

It was something that was said from the platform at a District convention that caused me to want to look on the internet to see what was being said about the witnesses.
"If you are happy with your life the way it is, stay off the internet". " Curiosity killed the cat."
I have to say that if it were not for the information that I have found on the internet I would still be a Watchtower slave.
Thank God for the internet.
Watchtower should be afraid of the internet. -

Chester, maybe God, not Al Gore, made the internet!

My husband & I made the decision to leave directly from information from the internet. I had never heard of Crisis of Conscience or Ray Franz.
I had never clicked onto the internet either. When I typed in "Jehovah's Witnesses", we just read - for about 3 weeks. I called Randy Watters - he was so nice & here I thought I might seriously be talking with Satan.
Randy suggested some books (CofC) and the WTBTS was history - thanks to the internet. It's been three years now - and we're still reading.

ps: the internet also gives jw's the opportunity to have a community - which many times leads to jw's becoming xjw's - which is an even better community.

In one way I'm new here but not really as I've been following along for months. This subject got me thinking though. I'd guess 99.9 per cent of you were already out of the org. or well on your way when you got involved on the net, let alone this site. That doesn't particularly look like the net will draw anyone out that isn't already predisposed. You'd have to be questioning your beliefs to even be here as the WTS frowns on these sites.
sally makes some excellent points about being predisposed and i have to agree with her, but i do offer a word of caution, and that is not to lump everyone in the same bag
there are some dye hard jw who believe that their faith can stand the fire test and they come here just to prove that point, despite what the wt says and in the 7 yrs i have been on the net i have seen them
folks will come here and when challenges 2 things will happen,
1. they will leave cause of being unable to defend their faith "Biblically" beyond BECAUSE THE SOCIETY SAYS SO.
2. THEY will take up the challenge and investigate the documentation, facts and proofs of the matter being discussed-
so for many jw they have questions , but due to the wt culture THEY KNOW BETTER THAN TO ASK
for most jw who come here they merely get a CONFIRMATION on matters
SO many former jw will tell you , that for years they wondered about so and so, but knew better than to ask, then they come here and find out they WERE NOT ALONE in seeing the shear foolishness of many of the oganizaitons positions
let me give you one of the most important questions a jw should ask themselves
What is the scriptural basis for the Society to classify a course of conduct A SIN that will bar one from eternal life and then 3 yrs later RECIND the rule thereby removing the classification of a SIN
IS IT only god who determines if something is a sin that will bar one from god's favor
yet that is what the wt does all the time they will announce that so and so is a sin and therefore a violation of the will of god himself and you will be dfed and cut off from family and god, then 3 yrs later annouce that it is NO LONGER A SIN but a conscience matter
there is no scriptural basis or precedent for est something as A SIN and then recinding it
for example at one time it was a SIN to divorce and remarry on the grounds that your husband was Fuc@ing the dog- excuse my french- and now it is not, did you know that a sister could not scripturally remarry if her husband was sleeping with the dog or sleeping with the mailman?
do you know as you are reading this post that there are 1000's of young jw men sitting in prison due to a "SIN" that the wt recently recended called ALTERNATIVE SERVICE?
so many jw will hear the goofy stuff from the platform or mag and say to themselves this is dumb, yet they can't talk to anyone about it,then they come here and find out they were not seeing things or hearing things or going crazy, but in fact 1000's of others around the world thought the stuff was goofy and without any support from the bible as well
but like a good jw - one is taught to go along with THE KING HAS CLOTHES ON
WELL here folks get a confirmation on issue many times that they have always wondered about and were not willing to buy into the old line "Wait on Jah"
and the reasons is simple , they realize that often times the issues has nothing to do with waiting on god IT IS SIMPLY WRONG-
THE genration doctrine of the 1914 generation was WRONG the day it rolled off the presses over 70 yrs ago and in the late 70's the GB knew that the dogma was wrong, but just couldn't figure out how to change it till they did in 1995- how sad
and let me drop this one on you, right now they are in the proceess of REDEFINING THE FDS -
and when they do most jw will accept it as wonderful NEW LIGHT FROM JAH

James, how will they redefine "The Faithful & Discreet Slave"?
