SS.... Humans have always been war-like yes, but never have they had under their fingertips the power with one press of a button that they have now........that argument is sort of invalid with all due respect. I fail to see where mankind is going in the direction of "less so" Africa you say is a "basket-case" and has been for many years, IMHO, Africa wouldn't seem to be the threat to mankind continuing in its present state as other areas of the world are Maybe you have greater faith than me in the West/Middle East/Far East, for me thats where the worry is. Just my ramblings ........
What will happen to humankind? (serious)

But I divulge...... how long would mankind go on, left to his own devices?
A lot longer than if left to Jehovahs devices.

Personally, I think God will obliterate everybody except the .1% of mankind who follows his Commands by not thinking.

Okay, seriously....I think humanity, as well as this earth, will end. There's no doubt about it. Next question?

The news likes to feed the fears of people. It increases their ratings. While the vast majority of the world controlers are evil, they don't want uncontrolled destruction. They like controlled wars, like small bushfires here and there, which are useful to them. Mass fear is also useful to them. It's a way for them to controll and use masses of people.
The threat of nuclear war has a positive affect as well. It pulls the people of the world together to oppose these types of mass destruction.
Does the middle east concern you because of socalled bible prophecy? While it is true that jews are likely the smartest and the most dangerous racial group, the bible would skew your world view. It is possible that, once they have 'their land' filled w jews only, that they might settle down. Time will tell.

Note to self. Must learn to ask in forum in future "Why will Jehovah obliterate you" to garner better replies.

Actually Scooby... time can be defined and can be demonstrated to have a measurable beginning and end... you just have to understand what time is.
Time is simply Entropy. As particles, atoms and molecules bounc around doing their thing, they are experiencing Entropy... which is what we perceive as the passage of time. If there are no particles or atoms or molecules, then there is no passage of time.
Time did not exist until matter emerged into existence, and therefore makes the question of "how long was there nothing" completely irrelevant.
There is no mystery to time... it is clearly understood and can be described and predicted using mathematical models. If you understand Brownian motion, then you understand time.

SS....you make alot of sense. However, I don't think the threat of nuclear war has a positive effect that draws mankind together at all. Some nations delight in the destruction of innoncents, 9/11 backed that up, as the towers were falling, they were celebrating. If those sorts could get there hands on anything bigger to use, I don't think they'd hesitate. The West is currently on a hunt to track down and destroy these at the expense of many innocents massacered from that side too, under the guise of rightousness. Who's right? and what next?
I agree with the rest you say. But what will happen?

My Dad was fascinated and was arguing with my mum who said it's rubbish because that isn't Jehovah's purpose for the Earth.
Nonsense. Death is part of life. It is the way God constructed this universe. Recently there was a photograph showing a star 20,000 light years consuming 3 planets in its solar system. In a few billion years, that will happen here. In the animal world, death is even more part of life. Again, that is the way God constructed this reality.
I undertsand what Witnesses teach about humans, that we were not meant to die. I don't know the answer to that, and honestly unless God himself decides to share that knowledge with us I don't think anyone can say definitively otherwise. For now, all things from stars to people to puppy dogs will die.
How long will Mankind, in your estemation, be here?
Having said what I did above, let me say this: life finds a way. Life on this planet survived a massive asteroid collision 65 million years ago. I choose to believe in God. I believe that while humanity is capable of amazing stupidity and seeming hell-bent on destroying itself, I also believe that we are capable of the most amazing dreams. Humans have overcome tremendous obstacles to get where we are now.
I submit that worrying about the future is ultimately pointless. I believe that we are better served dealing with our problems in the here and now, and let tomorrow take care of itself. I think it is better (and more positive) for us to focus on what we ourselves can control; and what we cannot, we simply let go. Fear is like a fog, and it keeps us from seeing what we need to see, which in turn keeps us from being who we are supposed to be.
