The US is just going to continue to suffer through devastating massacres until it removes some of the guns in circulation and perhaps stop selling certain guns and accessories all together.

Other countries have done so with success, so too can the US.

Except no, they haven't. Everyone harps on about the shootings in the UK and Australia who then introduced tougher gun controls and voila - problem solved!

Except gun crime never was a huge problem and hardly anyone had the guns that were banned. It was politicians being seen to do "something" but that something had little real effect.

Newsflash: the UK and Australia are not the US, it's an entirely different culture. Even Canada, which is closest culturally to the US is very, very different. Here's a question, why don't they solve Iraq and Afghanistan by banning guns? Will it work? Only an utter idiot would believe it ...

Just because something has appeared to work elsewhere (partly, due to insufficient data-points) doesn't mean that it's a workable solution that can be applied.

Leaping to gun-control before and instead of determining the root cause shows it's often more about an excuse for political power and state control than any real desire to solve the issue.

The real problem is that there is political capital to be made from mass shootings. No one in their right mind would give up their guns when a major party is promoting open borders and sanctuary cities and has a record of creating high-crime jurisdictions because of their lax stance on crime.

At the same time they are telling you to trust the police and hand over your weapons to the government, they are also claiming that the police are racist thugs who shouldn't be trusted. Their plan isn't even consistent and with so much uncertainty, who would give up weapons that may be needed to protect your family?

They have a plan, but your wellbeing is not part of it. Their plan seems to be to create ashes ... so they can rule them.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott expressed dismay on Monday that the mass shooter who killed seven people in West Texas had managed to buy an AR-style weapon in Texas even though he had a criminal history and didn’t register for a background check.

West Texas Shooter Update: It's now been reported that shooter had recently had a string of mental issues, and was in fact DENIED a weapon due to a background check being performed when he went to purchase one. The FBI and ATF are looking into how he obtained an AR rifle. (illegally, duh!)

So, tell me again how many of these shooters are SANE and how all of the gun laws the USA currently has fails everyone?

The answer to the riddle is not binary. This is not a decision between mental illness or guns. The answer is obviously both.

Let's assume that there is a small percentage of people in the country who are crazy enough to want to kill dozens of people. The question then becomes how easy should it be for them to have access to a gun.

If you have a mentally unstable person living with you, and you leave a gun on the kitchen table and go to work, only to come home and realize this person went out and killed 25 people, you can't just shrug your shoulders and say ... " well it's not the gun's fault, it's the mental disease". Of course it's the mental disease, but you made it incredible easy for this to happen and that's part of question.
