Well, the votes have been tallied and the Liberals have won control of the Province.

I wish them well and hope they fulfill half of their campaign promises.

Of the things I found most positive was the increased turn out at the polls. It is good to see people taking their right to speak up and cast a vote seriously!

The other great thing is it should mean job security for Walter :)

Well, the Liberals won, and we had LOTS of beer, champagne, and food to go around!

    Now the REAL work begins!!!

It doesn't necessarily mean job security for me though. After every election there is a restructuring in the Legislative Assembly. The new Liberal government will be forming a cabinet, and many members will head ministries, which all have their own IT departments. As a result, there could actually be less work for caucus staff, and I may find myself out of work. Them's the breaks though. I'll know within a few days.

Hey Walter, I knew it was probably going to happen, but when someone called me at work tonight to tell me that the Tories were out of office, I have to admit, I did the happy dance.

Congratulations Walter, and I hope things go OK. I'm sure Dalton will keep you in mind, how could he not? I'm sure something will work out for you.

My encumbent won, so I'm pleased here in Beaches-Woodbine.

Metropolitan Toronto standings this a.m.: Liberals 19; NDP 3; PC (Tory) 0.

The Liberals will be forming Ontario's next provincial government.

Hope things improve for all of us.

The report I heard on the radio this morning said that about 55% of those eligible actually went out and voted, down 1% from 1999. Regardless... that's still an awful lot of apathy going on out there.... Now ask me if I'll be surprised when the ones who complain the loudest about the government will be the ones who didn't bother going out to vote....

I wonder if we exJWs are allowed to take someone else's vote, to make up for lost time??

Anyway, Ontario, enjoy the next four years under the Liberal leadership of Dalton "Little-Sharp-Pointy-Head-Kitten-Eater" McGuinty.

    Love, Scully

As a non-citizen who couldn't vote (yeah yeah I got the forms I just need to kick my own ass and fill 'em in) I'll not complain about the Liberal Party victory. At least it wasn't the NDP!

My view is pretty much the same as the market, the economists and (very importantly) the international credit agencies: let's see what the Liberals do before reacting. Since Mr McGuinty has promised not to raise taxes, the economy shouldn't go off the rails (if he keeps that promise of course).

Well expatbrit, if this isn't raising taxes, I don't know what is !

What you are referring to is an increase in Corporate taxes. Mr. McGuinty has never minced words about doing away with some of the tax breaks given to corporations by the Tories. It was the rich that were getting these breaks. Not you, not me.

Even if this additional $550 million in revanue were to be passed on to residents in it's entirety, (and no one said it would be) it would amount to less than $46.00 per year per person.

Considering the current state of our health care and other public services, $46.00 a year is not so much. Who knows, it may prevent someone from dying of E.Coli.

Maybe I, after living in my own home for nearly 3 years, I will be able to find a doctor nearby who is willing to take on new patients so I won't have to drive half way accross Toronto every time I need a prescription renewed. Maybe my mother wouldn't have to stay in a hospital 1 hour out of Toronto because the Tories have trashed health care, leaving Toronto hospitals without room for her.

Maybe fewer people would die en route to hospitals if more of the emergency rooms were reopened. Several people here have died because emergency rooms turned away ambulances.

When were talking about human lives, $46.00 a year, less than 13 cents a day, doesn't seem so high to me.

    Walter
