Hi XJW:
I guess it could be argued either way about what Mr McGuinty said in that letter.
However, if he indulges his left wing ideology too much, Mr McGuinty will have two very basic truths hammered home to him:
1) The "big bad corporations vs. virtuous oppressed proletariat" viewpoint so cherished by liberals (small l) is complete nonsense. Corporations are the geese that lay the golden eggs. Most of the individuals he claims to care about are employed by them. If Mr. McGuinty makes it difficult for corporations to fulfill their only purpose (making money for their owners) by increasing the tax burden overmuch, he will reap the whirlwind when those corporations relocate to more competitive areas leaving Liberal voters unemployed.
2) The desire and freedom to improve the circumstances of yourself and your family is one of the greatest, most enobling, enriching, and above all, the most progressive characteristics of humanity. If Mr. McGuinty takes away the freedom of people to do this (such as for instance, removing their ability to avoid sending their children to state schools where they are handicapped to the lowest common denominator, instead of having the freedom to pay extra for superior private schools) he will find that nothing alienates faaster the people who actually drive this Province. While the left wing ideology is indeed to take away this freedom entirely, reducing people to abject dependency upon an all-powerful Socialist state that controls everything from birth to grave under the pseudonyms of "welfare" and "social programmes", society has now by and large moved beyond this irresponsible and selfish free-lunch mentality. Mr McGuinty will find it is gone for good, no matter how frantically he sucks at Lenin's teat.
