Dork, I invented the internet and my name is Al Gore. Dork, you can post as much as you want too. I'll let you......Signed Al Gore.

Whenever anyone posts and takes a position on a topic that is emotionally charged for some, that thread usually seems to become disrespectful pretty quickly. Not everyone on it acts disrespectfully, but there will be some posters who get emotional and start making some disrespectful statements. This seems pretty common on most dbs.

The one topic that is most emotionally charged for the greatest number of posters here is defending the WTS.

The second is probably child abuse.

Remember when we were out in service back in the day? How did we want to be treated by unbelievers? Is that how we treat JW's now?

This kind of ties into the "why angry" thread...

People take such threads very personally. I can understand that. It goes with the territory.

I only read page one of the posts on this thread. I hope this post will not be redundant. Here goes though:

JWs are cautioned strongly by the WTBTS to stay away from "apostate sites" one the net. They are supposed to guard themselves against such"dangerous thinking". I feel like if they invade "apostate sites" then they are rebelling against the Gov. Bod by even reading enough to sign up for the site much less reading the posts and commenting on them.

No matter how faithful they claim to be, they are just rebels in JW clothing. Something is amiss in their faithfulness to the WT org. because they would run miles in the other direction from JW Discussion Forum if they were truly heartfelt and faithful JWs.

I think they are here because they have doubts, no matter how much they argue to the contrary. They are confused and being here will rub off on them. Someday they will leave the org. If they do stay it will only be in body and not in spirit.

In other words, it's OK to be disrespectful when the topic's really important to you?

    Or it's understandable?

I understand it and have been guilty of it, but I can't defend it.

Flying----Great observations! I agree that if you're a Witness and you are here, then you're up to no good. Even when some come here under the guise of JW reform, either they are misleading themselves or are not being honest with us. But, everyone should feel welcomed here, as long as their not simply here to inflame or create trouble.......Phantom, are you being disrespectful to me?

    Minimus,

I agree. Let them come here, because if they are truly reading the posts it will affect their views of the org. No matter how much they convince themselves it will not. The Gov. Bod. knows this. That's why they tell JWs to throw"apostate literature" in the trash and not to read a single word. If their organization was so wonderful and true, the WTBTS would not worry about their critics. They would say something like: "Sure, go ahead and read the literature of our critics. We have nothing to hide and we will stand."

I believe that more and more JWs are coming to understand the true meaning of the scripture at Acts 17:11:

Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.

As modern-day Bereans, they are carefully examining everything which they are told. They are opening their eyes and coming to an understanding that blind faith is dangerous and misleading. Instead of blindly accepting Watchtower doctrine as fact, they are quietly doing independent investigation to ensure that what they believe is indeed the truth.

Many are discovering that they have been misled, and are taking action to better themselves by monitoring, and in some cases participating in, forums such as this.

Yes, there is a degree of hostility towards active JWs by some here. As someone who has been out of the Organization for more than two decades, I recognize this as part of the grieving process a person must go through in order to heal. I have seen many enraged exJWs eventually resolve their anger and become eloquent and important contributors to the exJW community.

Also, our diversity here sets an example to active JWs as well. We have allowed ourselves to become free thinkers, to have our own opinions, and to express those opinions, even when they conflict with the thoughts and ideas of others. We have the capability to engage in rational, intelligent dialogue, instead of parroting words written for us by the WTBTS. The posts I read here come from the heart, not from a cue card.

    SanFranJim,

I remember thinking a lot about the Bereans before I read my first internet criticism of the WTBTS. I wondered why we were taught early on in our studies with JWs the example of the Bereans; but then we were told later not to question the org. I could see it didn't make sense. I wonder if the Gov. Bod. holds the Bereans up as an example as much these days?

I believe that the WTBTS tends to attract fragile people who are in incredible pain. Those people are attracted to the idea that Armegeddon is coming any moment and their problems will be instantly solved. In the face of glaring problems in the org., those same people will cling for dear life to the org. because to let go will take away their hope of the "Armegeddon Quick Fix" to all of their problems. To let go of that "Quick Fix" idea would mean they would have to face life again and figure out their own solutions. Many of those people are ill prepared to do that because of the lack of education and financial planning and resources.

A scary thing it is to face the fact that Jehovah isn't going to rescue you and your family anytime soon. I believe with all my heart that this is why my older sister and my youngest brother cling so hard to the org.

Weak people easily can become Jehovah's Witnesses.
