E-man. That happened to us. The "case" was appealed, but overturned. My father an elder at the time, asked the presiding, why the decision was to stand and he informed him, "we noticed meeting attendance was down. This was Jehovah's way of directing us, as to the course of action to take".
Interesting part is, I guess if we hadn't come forward they may never have figured it out.
Was it just for fornication that Jehovah withdrew his spirit?
What about those brothers who were being dishonest in buisness, committing fraud, stealing etc.?
What about those who were peadophiles for years protected by Elders?
What about those who were alcoholics?
What about those who beat their wives?
What about those who lie on there reports?
If it was for any of the above then there were some congregations that around here who should never be growing.
I remember a young pioneer brother and a young sister in the North Unit being disfellowshipped for something that they did together, but I was too young to know what it was. After that, my mother said Jehovah's spirit had returned to the North Unit. This is a true story...
That's truly what my mother said.
On the other hand, it could have been the fact that one sister had some old religious materials buried in a closet. After her little girl told her mother she had talked to Satan, a bunch of sisters in the North Unit got together to thoroughly search the house, my mother told me. Another true story.
My mother truly told me this.
And then there was the brother in the North Unit who was disfellowshipped for drunk driving. My mother told me he was involved in a bad accident. This is a true story.
My mother truly told me this. I am not lying.
So which of these three incidents cleared up the blockage of Jehovah's holy spirit? And why did it clear up if there were other problems going on? I am still not sure how the spiritual enema treatment is supposed to work in this matter. Maybe you should ask my mother.

The congregation I attended ( Huntington, Long Island, New York) was in a residential neighborhood. It was discoverd that the neighbors daughter and her boyfriend were using the KH parking lot to park their car at nite ( not visible from the road) and have a little "fun" . After leaving the faith, many years later, my Dad, who was an elder, told us that there were many meetings with the CO over this issue and the CO kept emphatically telling all the local elders that "no wonder Jehovahs spirit is not on this congregation, ". They spoke to the girls parents and prohibited them from entering the parking lot.
So God punishes everyone over something somebody who's not even a JW is doing??? And something the elders can't really prevent unless they have a 24x7 parking lot patrol. I suppose God was witholding to force them to do a 24x7 parking lot patrol. Can you put that on your time sheet?
This is exactly the way the so-called false gods originated. Hmmm, we've had a bad year with the crops. We must have angered God somehow. We've got to find what's making him mad and sacrifice it to appease him. It's not really very different.
My opinion was that the warmth and love in a congregation was more of an indicator of Jah's spirit in a cong. If you didn't see enough love amongst the members then it meant Jah's spirit wasn't there.
Apparently in these cases, there was a little too much warmth and loving going around amongst the members .
In my congregation, after a disfellowshipping, attendance at meetings ALWAYS picked up. I think it was because something juicy had finally happened, giving people something to talk about, speculate on and entertain themselves with. The meetings were temporarily dramatic (I almost said more dramatic, but that would have implied that there had been a prior element of drama...)Shoshana
What, Minimus?
Yup! When the crops are bad ya gotta make a human sacrafice to please to gawds!
Can't say I have ever experienced anything around here like that, but I would not doubt it could have happened.
It does make me wonder about the logic of it. How could a God that does not desire any to be destroyed, cause them to stay away from his word until some minor problem gets fixed? Just another thing that does not make sense.
