I'm with flower, Badger, and Stephanus ... Especially as Flower noted that they (WTS) takes full use of freedoms others have fought to keep. The advantages given to Americans by not remaining peaceful is never given credit by them.

    I give them nothing.

A JW relative brought out something I actually had to agree with. We were discussing positive vs. negative aspects of the "Truth". She brought out that the witnesses do not participate in war, and I thought 'Gee, that's probably a good thing'.

But if a JW does go to war and fights for their country and the freedom of its citizens, including the JWs, that person is considered DAed by the WTBTS and is shunned. I think most people "in the world" would be shocked to find out that JWs will shun former members who left to fight al Queda in Afganistan . This won't win them any popularity contests.

    Integ.....nice thread....

I'd have to give the JWs thanks for being a force of good as far as my immediate family are concerned. We're naturally close of course anyway. But I think this has alot to do with my sister and my upbringing in the truth, from my mum. I could elaborate, but I can hear the tuts and sighing already.......and after all you did ask the question!

Good grief.... that may be true, however they do worship, love and adore a god of war that does indeed kill innocent men, women and children by the millions and soon by the billions as far as they are concerned. They may indeed have no blood on their hands, but they are swimming in it none the less. I often have wondered: as Jehovah's Witnesses, how could we of so easily worshipped and placed something as the "Most High" that which has obvious lower morals than our own (unless we are criminally insane). Perhaps religion is a mental disease. j

I have to repectfully disagree with panda and flower...veterans saved the country from external threats to freedoms of expression.. Otherwise, We'd be under Nazi/Communist/Japanese Imperial rule today...the unpopular among us save us from internal threats to those same freedoms...Otherwise, we'd be under Politically Correct/Christian Coalition/Fox News Channel rule today.

The witnesses helped protect the first amendment in the courts, if not the battlefield. Too bad they don't treasure them in their own organization.

    Hi Integ,

I don't think it is such a good thing that they don't participate in war. Many have fought bravely to protect our borders and keep it safe for our children to grow up in a country without the threats of cruel dictators. These young soldiers have layed down their lives so that thier familys can have the freedom enjoyed in this country. I believe that as the Bible says, that no greater love than this that one lay down his life in behalf of another.

I think they promote good morals and family life. I find it amusing that the question was about what good qualities you can find in the JWs but everyone seems to be unable to not focus on negative aspects. Everyone and every group have negative aspects, that wasn't the question.

My grandfather was a conscientious objector and JW, but he also went into the army as an ambulance driver. I would say he contributed to the war effort and JWs now have it much easier than previous generations that have to deal with the draft...BIG DEAL JWs don't go to the armed forces, there are many more hippy, dope smokin, happy people who wouldn't go even if they were drafted than that fill the ranks of the JWs.

    Sincerely,
