This could become a very real possibility. As we get farther and farther away from 1914, and true information about the Witness spreads, there could be a distilling down of Witnesses to a more and more fanatical group; those not persuaded against the faith no matter what the evidence. Anything could happen. j

Jehovah's Witnesses are very irrelevant. People just don't know much about them and people really don't care to know much about them. They are just another religion that exists on our planet. Jehovah's Witnesses are only legends in their own mind.

Micheal, I TOTALLY agree with you. Well said. Jehovah's Witnesses believe that ALL of Bible history and prophecy somehow apply to them. What an embarrassment!

Thanx Min. Too bad isn't it, that this is only recognized after a person leaves, which really goes to show all witnesses are very controlled if not brainwashed.

I figure after that length of time, 100 years, that all that will be remembered is the legal precedents the WTS set regarding freedom of religion. That is what most people I know that go to the university mention.

Blondie, you are right. JW's have won many court cases and this history is documented for all to see. I've heard some say (begrudgingly) that JW's are responsible for many of the religious freedoms we enjoy.

What will history or what does history say about this religion???

I guess it all depends on who writes the history and what they know. They might use the society's literature when they do write some of it for their statistics. Whatever they DO WRITE.....the dubs will never be known by enough people, for what they SHOULD be known for.

It's pretty surprising how LITTLE people really know about the dubs.....other than they bug people on weekends and don't celebrate holidays. I hope history will give a fair concise overview of the legal battles the dubs have been in.....and WHY they were in them. I hope they look at the critical side.....and not just their good points.

A guy with whom I worked said just the other day, when we briefly touched on the subject of religion, that used used to work with a jw. He said "the guy was nice, but every time we were alone, he'd corner me and want to talk about his religion. Those people are whacked". That seems to be how many people view them - and may well one day remember them.

I guess the first question is how they will evolve. Apocalyptic movements are necessarily short lived ( a few generations or a couple centuries). It's tough to keep up the urgency for any longer. They tend to collapse under their own weight.

Yet, the 20th century will prove interesting for spawning several of them. Armstrong's WorldWide Church of God has gone mainstream. They have also lost most of their members. If they can successfully manage the transition, they could evolve into a minor mainstream denomination, that could survive indefinitely.

I do not believe that the Witnesses, with their current doctrines and structure, can survive indefinitely. Either they will evolve and go mainstream, or they will whither. The whithering has already started. Once demographics catches up with them, it will accelerate.

It will be fun to watch them. I wonder if they will ever get a leader who is smart enough to catch on.
