    Six,

And TR, we aren't talking about protecting our kids here. We are talking about what most people find a minor anoyance. Us ex-jw's may find it a major anoyance, but that is about it.

I beg to differ! Letting total strangers talk to our kids is NOT my idea of a minor annoyance.

said it contradicted everything she had tried to teach her youngsters about not talking to strangers.
"but this is going against everything I’ve taught them."
"Everything I’ve tried to teach my children – it goes against all that."

Uh, gee, could you repeat that a couple more times? I'm not sure I got it.

She must not have taught them much, huh.

Well then TR, I'll suggest you get your mind right about this matter. What exactly is it if a stranger talks to your kids? You gonna come up and be a tough guy, simply because a stranger talks to your kids?
You should be grateful. This world needs more, not less, kind strangers. I think Jesus called them neighbors, and whether he existed or not, neighborly behavior is still a good thing. In fact, a necessary thing. I'm sorry, but I reserve my right as a human to interact with children, and if you aren't a pedophile, I believe in your right to interact with children as well. In fact, interaction with kind adults is an important part of being a healthy kid/human.

    COMF-- exactly.

Is this the good news where the loving Jewish war god will kill all people except JWs?

When I walk down the street and there are young children about, I smile and say hello, and move on. There are a lot of "what ifs" these days. What if the kid had a mental problem and freaked out while I was being sociable with them? What if they tripped and fell and hurt themselves, and an adult appears and thinks I hurt their child? I don't want to spend time at a police station trying to explain something I didn't do. We live in a different world today. However, if there is an adult there, who wants to chat with me, I will chat with the child as well. That's how I handle it.

Comf, you're right.. Maybe the witnesses helped the mother, because she now knows that her lessons don't seem to have worked, and she might be more diligent in her teaching methods.
However, the dubs may have also lost the chance to witness to her ever again, and she might have listened to them if they had gone to the door in the first place. Maybe they were scared to knock simply because they knew someone was home, so they talked to the children to appease their consciences?
This does not make it OK! Even though they do not realise that they are in a sect (I am not sure if it is a cult), it does not excuse them from 'preaching' to little ones. After all, the WTS teaches that parents are responsible for the ones who are too young to make their own decisions.

I feel the main points here are that:
(1)strangers went into a person's yard uninvited and
(2)started talking to very young children, 3 and 8
(3)about a subject that is the parents' responsibility and business to decide for their children
(4)and left without any attempt to converse with the parents

This situation was handled badly by the JWs and they deserve the bad press they are getting.

I too love to talk to children, but am careful not to get involved in what could be misinterpreted by a child or an onlooking adult, so I choose to talk to them when they are around their parents.

I wouldn't want to cause any confusion or conflict in the child's mind that has been warned by it's parents not to talk to strangers by starting up a conversation, especially about a controversial subject as religion. What business is it of anyone's to infringe on a parent's rights to teach their little child what they feel is right for them?

    Look,

no one was harmed, the kids are safe, the JWs hopefully have learnt their lesson, we can all sleep now, OK?

I guess we are going to agree to disagree on this thread. Just remember not all JWs are pedophiles.

    Yeah Fred,

I certainly would - if he partook of some "herb" with me and turn a beer into a six-pack
