Religion is poisen.

SLH:
I am firmly of the belief that religion truly is the opium of the masses and appeals to those in pain or with some hole in their life - the loss of a loved one or the breakdown in a relationship. Why would someone with a fulfilled life fall for this crap?
Ermmm....
That would be your considered opinion, huh?
Seems a bit limited, seeing as there are a few here who are religious and don't fit into those molds.
A&F:
According to my Christian beliefs, you have have both chosen Satan's side.
I would suggest that it's not your place to state that

Is that a perfume?

I follow the Scriptures:
MATTHEW 16:21:" From that time forward Jesus Christ commenced showing his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the older men and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised up."NWT
MATTHEW 16:22:" At this Peter took him aside and commenced rebuking him, saying: Be kind to yourself, Lord; you will not have this [destiny] at all."NWT
MATTHEW 16:23:" But, turning his back, he said to Peter:"Get behind me, Satan! YOU are a stumbling block to me, because you think, not God's thoughts, but those of men."NWT
JAMES 4:17:"Therefore, if one knows how to do what is right and yet does not do it, it is a sin for him."NWT

A&F:I stand by my comment. You are still in no position to judge.
I don't think I need to throw any texts around to make my point, do I?
Incidentally, why are you quoting the NWT, in that fashion? It's an awful translation.
Meanwhile, every blessing

My Christian Faith and Beliefs are based entirely in the Holy Bible. I rely on the Bible's counsel when I preach to people. It is the right thing to do.
1 CORINTHIANS 2:15,16 (15) :" However, the spiritual man examines indeed all things, but he himself is not examined by any man.(16):" For "who has come to know the mind of Jehovah, that he may instruct him?"But we do have the mind of Christ."NWT
"Incidentally, why are you quoting the NWT, in that fashion? It's an awful translation."
ROMANS 14:4:"Who are you to judge the house servant of another? To his own master he stands or falls. Indeed, he will be made to stand, for Jehovah can make him stand."NWT

Dear God
Dear God, hope you got the letter and...
I pray you can make it better down here
I don't mean a big reduction in the price of beer
But all the people that you made in your image
See them starving on their feet
'Cause they don't get enough to eat from
God,
I can't believe in you
Dear God, sorry to disturb you but...
I feel that I should be heard loud and clear
We all need a big reduction in amount of tears
And all the people that you made in your image
See them fighting in the street
'Cause they can't make opinions meet about
God,
I can't believe in you
Did you make disease and the diamond blue?
Did you make mankind after we made you?
And the devil too!
Dear God don't know if you've noticed but...
Your name is on a lot of quotes in this book
And us crazy humans wrote it, you should take a look
And all the people that you made in your image
Still believing that junk is true
Well I know it ain't, and so do you, dear God
I can't believe in
I don't believe in
I won't believe in heaven and hell
No saints, no sinners, no devil as well
No pearly gates, no thorny crown
You're always letting us humans down
The wars you bring, the babes you drown
Those lost at sea and never found
And its the same the whole world 'round
The hurt I see helps to compound
That Father, Son and Holy Ghost
Is just somebody's unholy hoax
And if you're up there you'd perceive
That my heart's here upon my sleeve
If there's one thing I don't believe in
It's you
Dear God

AND YET I still love and bless the lifegiver because he has given ME Life.
And I am also greatful to him for all of the good things that he has given me.
Hi AAF,
The problem with the entire discussion so far, is that the Bible is being used as if it were a divinely written book that is transmitted to humans to help us to be reconciled with God.
The modern day western Bible used by most Christians, is a Roman Catholic book that was modified somewhat by eliminating seven books from the Douay version. The Roman Catholic Church holds and maintains all of the older and important manuscripts used to compile the Bible. Yet, other books of the Bible, used by eastern orthodox Christians are not read or even known about by western Christians.
The Bible is clealy a work of men, and about men as they think they perceive and relate to God. It contains good literature, poetry, history, and inspiring thoughts ... but, in all honesty we cannot factually charge it as a work of God. It may be, or may not be, or partially be the work of God ... we just don't know ... and until God himself makes it clear to us, it would be presumptuous to assume otherwise. The truth is, we have no proof or direct evidence that the Bible, the Koran, the Torah, the Book of Mormon, or other so-called "Holy" books are from any God or gods.
Therefore, all of our assumptions about God's will, intentinos, creations, or relationships are uncertain. All the wishing, belief, and blind faith in the world will not make one bit of difference. We must live our lives the best we can and hope that someday God, if he exist as we perceive him, will fully reveal himself and his purposes for us ... and most of all explain why we humans have been totally ignored by him.
To me, Jesus Christ himself is the best example of what we might do to reach God. While much of what is written about Christ may or may not be true ... the concept of who he is as a humble, good, kind, self-sacrificing and loving person who did not put up with religion is inspiring to me ... and gives me some hope that maybe, just maybe God does care. Beyond that intellectual honesty demands taking a wait and see attitude.

AAF,I agree with Amazing. This whole discussion is a leap of faith and predicated on the belief that the Bible is the inspired Word of God.
