Thinking of becoming a JW - Need urgent honest advice!!!

Think about children for a minute. I assume you'd like to have some.

If you become a JW, your children will:

    1. Be discouraged from attending college

    2. Not be allowed to have non-JW friends.

    3. Not be allowed to participate in extracurricular school activities... football, band, science club, etc.

    4. Will not be allowed to salute the flag or sing the national anthem

    5. There will be no Christmas, Halloween, Easter, or any other holiday for that matter

    6. They won't have birthday parties

    7. They have to sit still through 5 hours a week of repetitious and boring meetings and you are encouraged to BEAT them if they can't stop squirming. Infants too.

    8. Instead of going out to play on Saturday morning they will have to go out with you from door to door trying to sell Watchtower literature.

I was raised a JW and I can't think of a more miserable way to spend childhood. I was a pariah and picked on. Children are taught that all their little non-JW schoolmates will die horribly at Armageddon and have their eyes pecked out by crows. I kid you not.

You, of course, will be required to wear knee-length modest skirts, obey your husband unconditionally, and ALLOW YOUR CHILD TO DIE RATHER THAN HAVE A BLOOD TRANSFUSION.

My advice to you? Run like the devil is after you, because he is.

I am sure you will find nobody on this forum positive reacting.

When you are an intelligent woman, after a while you will feel disturbed.
Small facts first- but it wil start bother you.

Nobody who has been a witness, has left the organisation without being damaged more or less.

    So take care.

Nearly everyone has such sound advice to offer to you, there isn't much I can add.

In lieu of offering you my opinion on what you should do, I can ask you to think on a few simple questions.

    1. Are you willing to let any of your future children die rather than take a blood transfusion? If you are, and in the future the organization reverses their position on the blood doctrine due to the emergence of 'new light' (their buzzword for doctrine changes), are you willing to accept that the change was divine direction from God himself and not be resentful that your child died under the 'old understanding'?

    2. Are you willing to stop celebrating all regular holidays (No Christmas, no birthdays, no easter, no halloween, no thanksgiving, no national holidays, no mothers/fathers day, etc), and to give up celebrating any form of those days with your 'normal' family?

    3. Are you willing to take as truth any mandate handed down in the publications of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society and follow them without question, knowing that keeping all of your new friends is conditional upon your acceptance of all the doctrine? Are you willing to believe that anything said by the Watchtower is looked upon as direct communication from Jesus Christ to his people here on earth?

    4. Are you willing to voluntarily enter into a contract with an organization (your baptismal vows will require you to pledge your allegiance to the society as God's sole channel of communication on earth)? Are you then also willing to, if at any point in the future you begin to question their teachings, break that contract and be shunned by all your 'christian brothers and sisters'?

    5. Are you willing to ignore that little voice inside of you that led you to post the question that started this thread? Are you willing to ignore all the negative information you've found regarding Jehovah's Witnesses as the voice of Satan attempting to deter you from the 'truth'?

If you can answer an honest 'Yes' to each and every one of these questions then I suggest you begin that bible study right away and work toward baptism.

If any of these same questions give you pause, continue your search for information, and listen to the instinct that guided you to research the matter in the first place. Once you are a witness, you will be forbidden to engage in "independent thinking" so take this time to do as much of it as you can before making any decisions.

I wish you the very best, and hope that you follow the path that is right for you.

I am still "in" the organization to a certain degree and may be speaking from a slightly different perspective.

If you do study, at least begin by having the study on issues and topics that YOU are most interested in and find troubling. There are plenty of articles from the Society's own publications that YOU may wish to include.

Don't in any way be confrontational but instead try to get answers to the sensitive issues (1975, last generation, organ transplants, etc) that may bother you. I would ask a lot of "why's" and "how's" and see how the instructor responds. If you do a little reseach on your own, it should make for a VERY informative and interesting study.

Then, at least you can make an informed choice.

Best wishes in whatever choice you make.

Do *YOU* feel that the organization that publishes these pictures is something you want to get involved with?

    Quotes .... good point.

I must admit, I always thought that 1992 brochure "Does God Really Care About Us" with the building burning in the background and the people laughing and smiling as if someone just told a funny joke went WAY OVER THE EDGE. I found it (and others too) very sick, morbid and quite frankly, disgusting.
