Yes, we're hoping to visit people (and have other people visit us) when we're over there.

You know what they say ... Canadians are all massed on the border ready to invade

We found the summers in Calgary to be lovely - very hot but not as humid as here in the UK. Of course, we're terrified of the winters

(we'll try and escape to Florida if we can, LOL)

Okay, this is even funnier than: Michigan: USA's last defense against Canada.

That's right, England is so far north that you have very mild summers compared to North America. I don't blame you for being terrified of the winters. Have a good snowblower and the right clothes. A lot of Southwestern Michiganders like to go to Gulf Shores, Alabama, just across the bay from my hometown Mobile, for the winter. They summer up here and winter down there. Ah, what you can do when you have the money. Sigh.

When do you hope to relocate to Canada?

Well, we're just paying off debts / saving up at the moment but it will be as soon as we have the requried "proof of funds".

The exams should help us get the qualifying points and also help to find work.

Another option (prior to getting the funds together) is apply for jobs and hope that a company will decide I'm worth putting through the relevant programme and going on a work permit.

We'll get there one day !!

I hope so. Sounds like you will. I often dream of living abroad. I did live in Hawaii for nine months which is almost like living abroad. I have not visited the British Isles. I hear Ireland is beautiful and that the economy is actually picking up there. But the kids and grandkids are here.

Computer skills, talent and aptitude sound like the way to go. Good luck.

Eh, Calgary don't have DECENT winters. They get chinooks all winter and everything melts. Now, if you want a REAL Canadian winter, come to Edmonton!

LOL, Chinooks sound fine to me !!

We've been to Edmonton but not in Winter (aren't we wusses, eh?!*)

Pictures of it in the snow do look fantastic though.

    * Notice the "eh" ... I'm practicing my Canadian speak
