With the televised coverage of political rallies showing Americans shouting and crying with religious fervor, I think it would be good to explain for members residing in other countries that many/most Americans are not enamored of politicians in general, frequently holding their noses and choosing the "least worst" (as my son in law exclaims).

No party choice, "independents" have been steadily growing over the years.

Per Gallup: "WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Political independents continue to constitute the largest political bloc in the U.S., with an average of 43% of U.S. adults identifying this way in 2023, tying the record high from 2014. Independent identification has been 40% or higher each year since 2011, except for the 2016 (39%) and 2020 (39%) presidential election years. Equal 27% shares of U.S. adults identify as Republicans and Democrats, with the Democratic figure marking a new low for that party in Gallup’s trend." https://news.gallup.com/poll/548459/independent-party-tied-high-democratic-new-low.aspx

I don't know why so many people on MAGA threads kept saying Michele Obama would be a last minute pick.

She's the only candidate that has a chance of beating Trump. Actually, Michelle and the Dominion IT folks. Michelle getting elected would effectively be Obama's 4th term.

Only 10% of the population is really " Politically independent ". 45% know already they are voting Republican or Democrat.

Chances are these people will be voting against Trump or than voting for Harris. The mid terms in the US in 2022 really showed polls don't mean much or Trump winning in 2016.

As far as the Obama backing Kamala, they did so holding their noses, they waited until Kamala had the requisite delegates.

There are really two factions within the Democrats, the Obama-style radicals that you see out in the street and the 1% (Elizabeth Warren, Gavin Newsom and co) that have the money and the votes within the party, they want higher taxes and regulation so they don’t have to compete with startups for their government-dependent businesses (think Boeing, Halliburton, Google, Microsoft etc).

Biden and Obama hate each other, that is clear, but Biden stabbed Obama in the back by endorsing Kamala after the letter on Twitter (which was written by Obama staffers) about him giving up on the election. This got her the requisite delegates because that guy (or rather his family at this point) knows where the bodies are buried though through 50 years in government so don’t underestimate his party power. The money is why Obama had to pick him as VP after all, without it he wouldn’t have even had the money to pass the convention.

The more I see Kamala Harris the more I like her. 👍

Whoever the next president is, I hope they have the good sense to try to bring peace to Ukraine and Palestine. At least Trump has promised one and Harris is speaking better on the other. On those two fronts, whoever comes next has got to be better than Biden.

At the end of the first week, it appears the future US election is a coin toss. Only time will tell.

The latest poll by the Wall Street Journal:

Exactly. This was a very reluctant endorsement. And they waited a whole week? Even Pelosi and Schumer endorsed her within the day. That meant that the party was never going to put up an alternative to Kamala. Why it would take Obama a whole additional week to finally endorse her is odd.

Some I know fall forcm the rags to riches story. No mention of her working up on her back or knees and that is irrelevant.

Stick to the vision for the country and how it will affect webelows.

“I’ve been a registered Democrat all my life. I don’t have any problem with the Democratic Party. I have a problem with her, though,” Piscitelli said in a telephone interview. “For me it’s not a political thing. It’s about her behavior and track record.”

The Register contacted spokesmen for Harris, the Democratic Party’s presumptive presidential nominee, on Friday, but did not hear back by deadline.' ...

'Piscitelli told the Register that the statements made on behalf of Harris make no sense, because Harris could have had her office black out the names of victims before releasing documents to the public.

Joelle Casteix, a clergy sex-abuse victim who was the Western regional director of Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests when Harris was district attorney in San Francisco, told the Register that Harris’ explanation sounds like something a diocese worried about liability for clergy sex abusers might say.

“That’s a bad excuse,” Casteix said in an interview. “Survivors want those documents released, because it’s evidence of a crime and a cover-up. Secondly, we have seen documents all over the country released that have protected the names of survivors.”

Casteix called Harris’ behavior as a district attorney “extraordinarily egregious.”

She said, “You can’t say that you are law enforcement and fighting for survivors and then pull something like this.”
