    They find life on mars?

As most of us know....they are expecting communication from the spacecrafts they have sent to the red planet. They are searching for water, organic matter, and signs of life.

How would your understanding of things change......if at all........if they find life there?

Not much -- my faith is fairly flexible right now, and I think I'd be really intrigued to hear about life on Mars.

I don't have "faith" any more, but I thought about this quite a bit when I was a dub. It wouldn't have challenged my faith at all unless intelligent life were to be discovered.

But after thinking about it for a while, I decided I could protect my faith from the discovery of intelligent life by concluding that we humans on earth are God's special, chosen people. (Similar to how Israel was his chosen people in ancient times.) I can see other Christians trying to protect their faith by concluding that we humans are the only intelligent beings with souls.

Ultimately I don't see finding other life, even intelligent life, as being a death-blow to religion.

When I was a good little JW -- yes

Now -- no. I'd be shocked as all get out, but as far as a belief in a Higher Power, I do not want to limit him. My job is to concern myself with my own many flaws and imperfections and work on improving myself and drawing closer to my God.

I asked my wife who is still in the Organisation how she would feel if they found life there and she said ..."mystified"! I'm not sure what she meant......but I think she would speak for many dubs.

I think the bible believers would be the most effected as it seems from it, earth is where god was challenged, it is where he STARTED man, and provided his son as a sacrafice for us earthlings. I don't know that jesus would die for a sinfull slimy martian or not, and god has no more sons to offer

Well, ok...I'll reply if that will make you happy...but it doesn't apply to me. Wouldn't affect my faith, such as it is, one way or the other.

    Not at all G.

If the Almighty wants to place life, or let life evolve on other planets, that's his/hers/its perogative - the Almighty does what the Almighty wants. It's with arrogance to think that earth is the only place the Almighty could have placed life.

As for intelligent life anywhere else? Look around - there's always more room for intelligence here (earth) and elsewhere.

    Just my thought......

Ok, ok. Since i'm one of the faithless ones, it would have no effect in that way. However, i expect that life will be found, if not on mars, then other planets. Bacterial life on mars is likely, imo. Now don't forget to send me that ten dollars you promised. Sheesh, i just let my threads go where they want.

    Asleif,

Thanks for saying somethin even though you didn't say somthin

    SS,

Your 10 bucks is in the mail.

I actually thought finding life on mars would be a big deal to people......but apparently not. It would at least make evolution more believable to me.

If life was found there......not intelligent life......It would make me wonder why a god would bother. Why put organic matter or bugs on a planet? What would be his purpose?

    Gumby..................thank you too blueyes
