@Nathan Natas
just to clarify on pedophiles serving again, that’s recent in the last 15 years or so. I wasn’t referring to anything that occurred before the late 80’s or early 90’s. Plus, in the last 10 years or so, anyone appointed for the first time as to respond to a form of the question ‘have you ever engaged in child molestation?’ True, they could lie and say “no”. But anyone could lie in whatever child service job they apply for.
Or they could move, pretend to want a study, then come back into the truth in order to prey on the children, but again, any organization could be a victim of someone like that.
As as far as reporting, I’m no expert nor a lawyer, but I suspect just about every western nation has some type of reporting law. There’s few societies that would allow that type of behavior. In fact look up “mandated reporter” on Wikipedia which supports that.
Your comment saying that if no such law exists means the WT lawyers wouldn’t encourage reporting it, implies they condone or encourage this behavior, which is an unfair slam against them. Like I said, child abuse is a deviant behavior, so as bad a rap lawyers get (weak lawyer joke :). ). They still don’t like child abuse.
Back to Morpheus point, 2 witness rule doesn’t matter. If someone molest your child, and you know about it, report it! It doesn’t matter how many witnesses there are or whether some misinformed or misguided elder says not too, it’s still your responsibility to say something to the legal authorities. In the end, the misguided elder will get corrected.
Thats sad about the sister. She deserved to know he was a serial pedophile. The safeguards I mentioned in my original post are meant to address that. But it could also be that they told her about him and she married him anyway, unless you were on the body or present during the conversation, it would be tough to say, as they would have treated it confidentially.
one last thing that’s tough to write about. Pedophiles are people too, God still loves them (he hates the sin), as long as they can control themselves and not act on their impulses, they can attend meetings and serve Jehovah. If it’s known to the elders, they’ll put restrictions on them where they won’t ever be alone with children like going door to door by themselves or being with other people’s children. If these pedophiles are truly seeking to serve god and make changes in their life, they’ll be welcomed (cautiously of course), if not, they won’t be welcomed in the Kingdom Hall.
Thanks for the welcome.
