Aren't Dub boards better left alone?

We all agree that the Internet will free thousands of good-hearted people from the clutches of the Watchtower.

I think the more JW discussion boards there are, the more JW's will get on the Internet initially to use the boards then hopefully they will branch out and maybe the God of Google will view them favourably and help them in their eye-opening.

So I think its a bit sad that Witness World has closed its doors. I don't think its a good idea to infiltrate the JW sites if it means the administrators end up closing the site.

Agree/disagree anyone??? At least be thankful you get the chance to post on a question which hasn't been asked by bloody Minimus!!

Interesting theory. I wonder if anyone HAS actually jumped over from a pro-JW board to a more "freeform" board like this one. If I can see concrete examples of this happening, then it would prove your point.

Well, I'm one example, Gopher. And I could actually list quite a few others on this board, although some of them wouldn't want to be identified.

Personally, I'm inclined to agree with Eruke on this; in fact, I've pretty much said the same thing elsewhere.

I should add, however, that no one could have guessed that WitnessWorld's reaction would be so strong or so sudden; plenty of other Witness websites have dealt with infiltrators without shutting down (at least, not immediately). So while I don't think that infiltration is a good idea in the long run, I also don't think that the particular people who infiltrated Witness World should be blamed. For Witness World to have reacted so sharply, it clearly had to be on the verge of collapse anyway.

I agree with the points Euphemism made in a post a few days ago... ("5 tips..") Yes, I did infiltrate a board, but I did not do so with the intention of making anyone "see the light" or even upsetting their world. Actually, I was just curious and wanted to "listen" to Witnesses other than the few I know in the "real world". I did wind up posting on a controversial post, which I regret a little - but I don't think I did anything to hurt anyone.

As for more boards online, if I were a Witness, I don't think I would approve of them. Does it make people explore more? Maybe in a few cases, but the dubs I know are online (although not in any Witness boards) and never explore things like that. They use it for entertainment and job hunting and things like that. For the most part, I don't think having Witness boards would do a whole lot of good either way... if that makes sense.

I'm exhausted, so I'm sorry if this makes little sense. I must get sleeeeeeep...

Another quick thought -- Do you think WW's collapse had anything to do with their somewhat public and nasty war with PLN?

I hope the WW members all had contact info so they can keep in touch with each other. I'm sure some of them feel the rug has been yanked from beneath them.

It's possible at least one of them will wonder if the paranoia over apostates is bordering on ridiculous. It's very possible that such an abrupt closing down of WW will seem rash and extreme to some of them. It's likely to plant a seed of doubt and then curiosity in their heads.

JWs, who are active on taboo internet discussion boards, show some willingness to go against the org in actuality. If they go against the society to lurk on boards like JWD then it's my theory that they have one foot out of the org. anyway.

    PS What is PLN?

Euphemism -- glad you're here. Heck, darn, dang, shoot.

FlyingHigh -- PLN stands for "Pure Language Network", another dub board.

Your point about paranoia reminds me of this saying:

I wouldn't be so paranoid if everyone weren't against me.

Thank you, Gopher. So what kind of battle were they having with PLN? Pope, do you know or does anyone else know?
