@vienne, in the 90's some jw.org windows opened, and some wt officials worked together with historician. James Pellechia, Jolene Chu and Johannes Wrobel gave tribune to the many JW victems in the 3th reich.

That was new, witness officials working together with governement and university's.

With some jw university student friends we expected change.

The change that came was not the change we hoped for.

Long nights with long discussions then! We lived for the change.

historician. James Pellechia, Jolene Chu and Johannes Wrobel gave tributne to the many JW victems in the 3th reich.

these courages martyrs, might have acted more out of purely christian convictions than wt doctrine of the day, which denied the existence of the superior authorities, the governments "put in place by god".

I suppose I'm being a pest, asking questions. Waton, I don't understand your post. As I understand it, Witnesses returned to seeing the superior authorities as governments in 1958. Please elaborate.

vienne, I had the privilege to give a ride to an older german witness going to the old Gilead school site in Lansing NY, driving from the NY City Yankee stadium assembly, going north.

He explained to me, that one of the hardest part of the incarceration was the wt doctrine of the absentee superior authorities,(Rom 13) that the nazi interrogators, and other conscientious objectors could prove to the bibel forschers to be wrong. He was talking about the 1940s.

Imagine facing death, with valid doubts about your religion org.'s beliefs.

The wt's return to scriptural beliefs on that was in the 60s, later than 1958. I remember the day.

I was studying with a baptist, going through the "let god be true book." with him. On Rom 13, I tried to give a brilliant defence of the untenable wt position. ha ha. then, coming home to to our pioneer home, there was the brown wt subscription wrapper on our bed, (like in bethel) whats new? voila, "question from reader": Rom 13 applies not to the father and son, but the governments. wow.

As the baptist had said "wt has made you a false prophet" ( spokesman for God) right, , ---I woved, --will not happen again.

wt still leads it's members to possible condemnation by making them preach wrong, outdated doctrines.

Waton: I bow to your experience.....

I can remember the adult Witnesses being excited about a new explanation of Rom. 13. It was at a Twickenham Convention. The talk went over my head , I hadn’t known about the former explanation, being a youngster.

Just splitting hairs but the changing definitions of "generation" had another step prior to the overlapping weirdness. In the nineties they changed it to represent an era identified with certain characteristics or something similar. No one really got it or felt it was meaningful.

The wt "generation" theories were formulated by writers who had no child birth or family experience. They counted on their personal uniqueness as a way into the future, not passing on life, their genes. The generation narrative in Mathew does not fit a second fulfillment, anointed or overlapping.

The only fitting specimen of the generation would be an armageddon survivor who dies at the latest in the rebellion after the 1000 years have ended. " Passing away after all has occurred."

I think it's ironic when JWs rejoice over "new light" which is really the WT accepting Christendom teachings which they had condemned for years, such as the "superior authorities" being worldly governments.

    Ding,

Raymond Franz said as much in Crisis of Conscience. In the preparation of the WTS’s 1971 work Aid to Bible Understanding, he was given full access to all the reference works which the Society has at its disposal. Many of these had been written by scholars of the various “churches of Christendom”, and in so many instances, it was exactly as you describe. That is, what the JWs called “new light”, Christendom had known all along.
