Here in Indiana we have a great winery. Oliver Winery is the name.

They make the best blackberry merlot, just wonderful stuff!

They also have an unusual wine I am fond of, Honey wine. To die for.

In general I favor merlot and chardonet wines, they go best with food.

    Copsec,

Every year a group of friends and I head to the little town of Hermann, MO. for Oktoberfest. 3 days of wineries and fun! They do have some great wines out of that little town

We have toured there, pioneered for years just a couple congs up the river from there.

red, red wine is my bag baby!

Merlot, Cabernet, or a Shiraz is what I usually drink. You know what is also really good (and we found on sale as of late) is a spanish red wine Crianza Rioja, 2000 vintage from Conde De Valemar. Very tasty!!!, hmmm I'll think i'll pour me a glass right now.

I'm really fond of the white Zinfandels. On special occassions, the Asti Spumanti is great. When I was in the Air Force I developed a fondness for Mateus Rose which I could get in the Azores for less than $1 per bottle. You would be amazed at how many cases of Mateus a C-130 transport can hold. We always had to be careful to get the still wine as the sparkling version had a duty imposed at more than $1 a bottle.

    G'day codeblue,

You'll be interested in some threads in the "Ozzie's Wine of the Month" series. Do a search.

If you check my profile from 3 years ago (and things haven't changed), I believe there's only one wine...................shiraz!!!!!! But make sure it's Australian.

    Cheers, Ozzie

Well... as I was born in Lyons, Beaujolais is what I am most familiar with. Don't judge it by the often lousy "Beaujolais nouveau", it can become a great wine when properly produced and aged, especially in its "crus" (Chiroubles, Morgon, Fleurie are the most delicate).

But the (expensive) top is Burgundy when it is great (not always): an old Pommard or Volnay, or a still older Nuits-Saint-Georges is just my idea of Paradise... Great white wines also, from Chablis (North) to Pouilly-Fuissé (South).

Besides that, there are many cheap and good wines especially in the South-West of France: Côtes-de-Bourg (Bordeaux), Cahors, Minervois...

I tend to prefer white wines, white zinfandel, rieslings, "rhine" wines. Havng grown up around the wine country of Germany, I had many chances to sample some of the best.

When it comes to reds, a merlot pleases me most.

I don't like wines that are too sweet, heavy, or sharp. I like it to flow cleanly off my tongue.

Wherever I live, I like to sample the local wines and we will take a weekend and take a couple of winery tours. I am looking forward to visiting the California wine areas some day soon.

a glass of red wine with dinner is a must. Narkissos, yes, Morgon is great, I remember.... Haven't had it for year, unfortunately. Not the kind of wine I can easily find around here. Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Hmmmmm.... Bourgogne, so good.

About 3 years ago I bought an Australian Shiraz and hated it. Didn't bother try it again, until last week. I bought a Banrock Station 2002 Shiraz. It is a very good wine. I will try other Shiraz now.
