They actually had me convinced at one point that we were there mainly to observe but guess what ? the bible does not mention any type of gathering that didn't involve eating and drinking . In fact it clearly states that only those who are going to eat and drink should attend . Yet another WTBTS botch job . I am so glad at this point that I didn't become a dub . I did get into some horn locking over other issues but this one I wish I woulda but didn't realize it til after I quit the study scene.

Actually from 1935 when the WTS identified the "great crowd" until 1938, the great crowd did not attend the Memorial.

7/1 p. 15 "The Israel of God" and the "Great Crowd

At first the position of these other sheep was not well understood, but with the passing of time, things became clearer. In 1932 anointed Christians were encouraged to urge other sheep to share in the preaching work?something many other sheep were already doing. In 1934 other sheep were encouraged to submit to water baptism. In 1935 they were identified with the "great crowd" of Revelation chapter 7. In 1938 they were invited to attend the Memorial of the death of Jesus Christ as observers.

It was like going to a party but not eating the food and participating in the events like dancing.

Blondie--- it's more like jesus inviting you to dinner and then telling you not to eat or drink anything . They don't even treat it like dinner , even if you are going for the purpose of eating and drinking all you get are a few crackers and a sip of wine . Give me a friggen break here. The catholic church does the same stupid thing . There are some rules that do apply but mainly do not eat and drink prior to the event and to determine whether you have walked the walk and not just talk the talk . Have you been putting the kingdom interests first and resisting the temptations of the world kind of thing . IMO .

I didn't mind the memorial that much. It was something different than the boring public talk, the watchtower study, the service meeting, and even the TMS. It was almost like when they showed slides or videos at the KH. It came once a year and you always wondered if someone was going to partake. Not often you have curiousity at a meeting. The only thing was the Memorial talk was basically the same every year.

My favorite part was the fashion show.

Just kidding, but not really. I always felt solemn and honored. Much like I do when the Star Spangled Banner is played, now. After I found out the true Biblical meaning of Christs' admonition, then I felt angry and left out, and the whole event was cheapened for me. Once again, it's back to the solemnity and awe, and for the right reasons.

I believe I went to one of these while my wife and I were dating. This was way before I realized the troof about the WTS (I just thought it was another one of many christian based religions at the time).

I really didn't pay much attention to what was happening. I was just there as the loyal boyfriend type person.... I remember we got there late. We had to sit in the back near the entrance by a coat rack I think [this must've been 4-5 years ago]. We sat there for I guess about 45 minutes - some one was speaking in the assembly area. I don't even remember if we got to see anything passed around (I drank a lot at the time - but can proudly say I was sober at the meeting). Afterward we greeted her sisters and some other folks and left. I didn't care enough at the time to ask any questions (in retrospect imagine what I could've prevented today had I merely researched the WT online).

Can someone one fill me in on what exactly goes on at the memorial, general terminology etc....

    Thanks,

    FM

AH,yes the memorial,i remember one time sitting in my seat dieing of thirst. To get up and get a drink of water would have been frowned upon so i sat there trying to find some spit to help my dry mouth ,then the wine came around and it was my turn to pass it along ,all i could do is hold that glass thinking how mouth watering that wine looked ,i was so tempted until a little kid stuck his fingers in it then the thirst went away.
