"Do you want to know why you don't believe the truth anymore?"

I've just been asked this question by a Jehovahs Witness who stopped to talk to me in town. I'd told her I didn't believe anymore.

"Yes" I answered (interested to see why she thought I didn't believe anymore)
"OK I will tell you why" she said, smugly. "Belief in the truth is a divine gift from God. He opens our eyes. Now that you have stopped going, he has taken it away from you, so you don' t believe"

I just thought I'd let all you apostates out there know this.

Sirona, why don't you think I believe in what you believe? (Serious question)

For the record - I don't think she was right in any way shape or form.

    Abaddon,

Sirona, why don't you think I believe in what you believe? (Serious question)
mmm do you mean what I believe in terms of paganism or general belief in God? If you mean belief in God, I'd say that I think that perhaps for whatever reason your purpose in life isn't related to belief in a deity. I mean, some people are better off not distracted by beliefs in God and therefore are more able to focus on other things to the benefit of everyone around them. E.g. if not believing is necessary for you to focus on some important research / work (which may be hindered if you did believe in a god) We all have our own path to follow, and one of those paths is atheism. Next time around I might be atheist and a scientist...LOL As far as paganism, I think that it is only accepted by a certain type of person. I'm sure there are other equally fulfilling (if not better) belief systems out there, but paganism is right for me. None of us are more "approved of" by God IMHO, it just isn't based on God judging everyones every action. Atheists are just as enlightened as the rest of us (some buddhists may disagree with my use of the word enlightened there....but still) Sirona

    Hi Sirona,

I SO resent being told that I'm just another (ex) JW who is "disgruntled" ( I HATE that term!) and I'm a whiney cry-baby (that is angry over the shunning that has splintered my family), and that it's MY fault that I "wouldn't live up to my dedication".....so whatever "lumps" I'm taking are entirely my fault!

Anytime you TRY and explain the "whys & wherefores", their "I'm not listening" mode goes into action and the sound barrier cannot be broken to make them understand.

Apparently we only "understand" the horrors and deception of the WTS when we're READY (took ME 30 years!) so I must learn to be more patient with those who try and defend the WTS beliefs and understand that THEY are not "ready" yet. As angry as I get at their attitudes some days, (and I do!) I know that the Witchtower Babble & Trick Sassiety is crumbling and is losing it's power over loyal and trusting minds...

And...I'M FREE, and have my self-respect back---whatever the cost!

    hugs,

    Annie

    Sirona:

    Okay, what's the functional difference between that reply and;

"OK I will tell you why" she said, smugly. "Belief in the truth is a divine gift from God. He opens our eyes. Now that you have stopped going, he has taken it away from you, so you don' t believe"

By functional difference, in both cases I don't believe. In both cases I have different beliefs to the person making the statement. In both cases the person making the statement believes they have an insight on truth the other doesn't have.

The only difference between your view and that Dubbies view is that you don't condemn me.

None of us are more "approved of" by God IMHO, it just isn't based on God judging everyones every action. Atheists are just as enlightened as the rest of us (some buddhists may disagree with my use of the word enlightened there....but still)

Obviously, that's great. But are you happy having a belief structure that is so unsubstanial outside of your own perceptions that the only difference comparing it to your former beliefs is that now you don't condemn me?

Please realise I accept that if some of the things you described were things that I had perceived, I might well feel differently.

    Abaddon,

Predictable. I knew you were going to say that and it wasn't ESP ....LOL

In both cases the person making the statement believes they have an insight on truth the other doesn't have.

I did not say that. I do not think I have more insight on the truth. What the heck is truth anyway? I said that my beliefs are right for me and my life now, and your non-belief is right for you and your life now.

I know this is not hugging thread but I can't help myself.

When sister tight ass asked you the truth question I would have replied.....

No thanks...The truth will be truth whether I or anyone else believes it or not. If it is not the truth then it will change and be replaced showing that it was never truth in the first place. As you know sister tight ass the scriptures say God cannot lie and what sharing does the light have with the dark, so clearly truths from God are never mixed with untruths. Unless of course you mix doctrines taught by men in with them...

BTW have you read the Finished Mystery I think you'll find it enlightening considering you will be discussing the 1914 to 1919 period in your WT studies the next few weeks. It was the main study article of that time period......bye bye now gotta go.......don't let the door slap your ass on the way out..and don't go away mad.......just go away!

And Sirona you know better than to get into a discussion with Abaddon he's too damn good...I think he may be an undercover agent in her Majesties secret service.

My mom would have the same view. In a way, the fear of losing 'the light' held me back from quitting in the past. I was told when you stop pleasing Jehovah, he stops letting you see things. You forget things, you cease to understand. I asked SimpleSally about the time I quit, if she had forgotten scriptures and things, as she was always quick as a whip with information when we were both in... so I wanted to know if that was taken away from her. It wasn't. She said there was no difference, she still remembered things. I felt better after that

It is a way they keep people from drifting.... for fear you will be blind..
