Inciting hatred on the basis of race, religion, gender, nationality or sexuality or other personal characteristic.
    Unless you're gay.

    I rest my case.

Thanks Nina and Valius for having a head on your shoulders and brains between your ears.

And one last thing, and this IS the last thing, Phantom Stranger, if calling everyone "fellow nitwits" caused you to get angry and defensive, I am sorry. It sounds to me like I grouped myself in with everyone else. But maybe you missed that. If you still want to talk about that PM me, because I am not coming back into this homo thread again.

Like I say, sorry to spoil your fun everyone.

    re: personally offensive threads

I find some threads extremely denigrating to women, although not "officially breaking the rules".

Usually they are men, expressing opinions about women (all in jest of course, yeah right).

Or they may be showing what I consider 'soft porn', as in

Who is the worlds most GORGEOUS woman ?

On that particular thread, I expressed my opinion; ie, "this is offensive", and left it at that. And although I did not request it, I noted later that certain OTT pictures were removed.

Usually, I just don't bother commenting at all. Why let it get to me?

We all have different opinions on what is 'offensive'. Especially when that opinion is about our personal circumstance. Every group can have certain aspects we don't like, and it takes some 'tolerance' of what we may consider asinine jerks in order to get along so that we can benefit from the greater experience of being a member of that group.

    Too many rules = censorship

    Nina:

Shamus, this is admittedly a volatile subject. As you can see from my last post in this thread, it got me thoroughly pissed, and that takes some doing. I feel very strongly about injustice toward any group --
This is another form of civil rights and I KNOW that gays and lesbians will one day win their rights in American society. In the meantime, though, there will be lots of discussion pro and con as people try to understand a new concept and that's a good thing.
And, for what it's worth, I can't even begin to understand how gay marriage relates to incest or polygamy. I don't blame you for being offended by that, and I think it would be a kindness for people to stop making comparisons like that.

Nina, I always look forward to your posts, you have a kindness about you, I know I'll learn something that will be helpful. Like you, it takes a lot to get me pissed-off, unfortunately I'll get frustrated and sometimes say things I'm sorry for later. This is NOT one of those times. I appreciate what you said above.

Shamus, hopefully will not 'go away' from this forum, if he does it will be a loss. When there's no one there to give passionate arguements about rights for homosexuals for instance...what good has been accomplished? The people who who live with particular injustices are the ones who know more about them.

I am sure that some of these 'clever' people that seem to live to argue may be feeling a little smug right now...thinking somehow in their own narrow minds -- they have acheived a victory of sorts. They can sit back, comfortable with themselves, knowing they NEVER specifically SAID certain things, like 'homosexuals = incest'. Very clever...you knew what you were doing.

Ever hear of a 'Phyrric Victory'? That's your real victory.Of course you know that...you're clever.

"A Phyrric victory is a victory so costly that it is hard to distinguish the winning side from the losing."
