Each year their announced number for DF'd was 35,000 (are they still using that?) For all the love of statistics they have you'd think they'd give an accurate break down ie New vs Non attendees. I'm sure they are out numbered and would be embarrassed if the true tallies were known.
The summmer before I quit, they said at an assembly that around 40,000 people per year leave the organisation. It occurred to me then that about as many that were baptised were leaving. I started to wonder why. Maybe that's why they don't mention the numbers too often:)
Cicatrix........Yes I heard them figures too, but with what was it 259.000 baptised last year alone, I couldn't see where the 40,000 who left tipped the balance. Doesn't that leave a positive of 219,000? And show an increase?
Still I was never that good at maths

yes there are more inactive if u take in all sources. That is, we aren't ever going to have a "all df/da/inactive/ memorial attenders only convention " are we? Not all inactive or whatever are represented on the net. Probably only a small amount. My own family has tons of one time jws, and none of them are here nor would u ever find a way to count them. If u take ever bible study that stopped studying , all inactive, DF, add just memoral attenders, they are a great crowd. A lot of people are coming into the jorg, but they leave prety quick. Either they can't hack it and get Df or they see through the BS. Or the kids of the 3rd generation group that generally all left the org, or the ones like me that have been kicked around until they gave up. Or the usaul suspects, the people who work too much and just stop attending, the sick and weak. They don't come back b/c jws don't have a real program to help those in need. There is a great crowd out there who were once jws.
(we won't even get on to "interestred ones" who attend too, year on.)
Thats why I thought the argument didn't hold up.
I think this forum must be the premier of exjw forums here on the net that is availiable worldwide when clicking on JW in search. Not even you can wish away the numbers presented.
Of course, we are talking people here with real feelings and emotions. It works both ways too.

Wednesday,
I'd love to see more evidence of your assertion. Of course many have left the JWs, you know some in your family, I know some in mine. I think really its an assumption that ex JWs use that there are more ex than there are active or attending meetings as a whole right here right now, than those that consider the JW faith their preference when questioned.

Well, I guess it would depend on the definition of active member. In my former congregation, only about 40% were "regular" meeting attenders. And in my experience after DAing, there are a lot of "marginal" folks who have doubts and are just going through the motions. The threat of losing all contact through disfellowshipping keeps alot of them staying just active enough to remain on the roles. But I personally don't see any mass exodus in the future.
scooby,
What more can I say?
It's pretty logical that there CAN BE NO STATISTICS, since there is no organized group of, as you say, disaffected/inactive/d/f JWs.
SO ...
what do you expect folks to reply? There IS no answer to this question, HELL, we can't even argue about it.
asked and answered, my friend. Just my opinion.
At least I answered, cheeze.

Scoob,
Whatever the ratio is, whether there are more of us or more of them, the number of us is huge and is growing every minute. I am listed only as inactive. There are those who are disfellowshipped. There are those who are disassociated either on purpose or through no choice of their own. There are people who fade. There are those who attend meetings and go through the motions who know it's not the truth. There are those with serious, major doubts who teeter on the brink.
How many people believe without any doubt then? I wonder. Don't you think there are a lot of people who know something's wrong in paradise but can't completely put their fingers on it? They hear things at the meetings and assemblies that sound absurd, ridiculous and unbelievable. I know I heard a lot that sounded plain ludicrous. When we studied the Revelation Climax book I kept thinking, "Oh come on, where do they come up with this stuff? How do they really know if this stuff is true? They say they are not profits. This is just goofy sounding." Then I would say, "Well, just trust them." Then other times I'd wish the WTBTS didn't have the truth. I thought, "How nice it would be if they don't really have the truth and we aren't under such scrutiny by God."
Don't know if this helps at all. Just my feelings on the matter.
