BTW who was in charge in that area in 1948? Who set up Israel as a nation?

There have been problems in that area for aeons. Remember the Crusades?

With 3 of the world's major religions centering on Jerusalem as a holy city (Christian, Jewish and Islam), I'm not surprised it has been a hotbed of trouble.

IMO it has always been about the land and the city of Jerusalem. Keeping it out of the hands of a totally muslim controlled governement would seem to me to be one of thier aims as well IMO. .

    >A better subject to bring up would be the collaberation the German government made with the Terrorists at the 1972 Olypics.

Please specify what you mean be "collaberation"?

    GermanJW,

The collaboration that allowed all the terrorists to leave Germany quietly because Germany was afraid of the terrorism that would (might) be brought because of assisting Israel. They worked a deal dude.

    Simon,

The problem with your premise is that most main stream Christians believe the Jews are God's people even now...that Israel was rejected is not a common Christian theme...though it is a JW position.

Why so anti Israel all the time???

"If you look at the history and beliefs, surely Christianity has more in common with Muslims who believe in Christ (as a prophet) then in Judaism which was the very religion that Christ was rejecting and was killed by! Surely for Christians, the jews were "the bad guys" having rejected the messiah and forfeiting their position as gods chosen people?"

No, not really. The Jews, like Muslims, believed that Jesus was a "prophet," just not necessarily the son of god. And the teachings of Jesus (forget the scewy JW interpretations) were not about "rejecting" the Jews: they were more about saving and embracing the entire world of people. His teachings transcended, I believe, narrow religious views, similar to Confuscious. He wasn't trying to segregate and compartmentalize; what Jesus rejected was the Jewish rules/laws/isolation, NOT the Jews themselves.

Beyond that, keep in mind that the majority of the Jews now living, live in the US. They fled horrendous European persecution both before, and after, Hitler. The US offered a safe haven from despotic dictators and persecutors of Jews. No wonder they came, and stay, in the US.

Well, before Israel was setup we seemed to have a lot more friends in the area.

You mean the Israel that the British put in place?

Wow, Simon---big ones for bringing up this topic!

My thoughts on this are from Noam Chomsky. The reason US supports Israel so much is that it gives them a fighter in the midst of Arabs (and Arab oil) and Israel can often do their dirty work of terrorism, assassinations, etc.

If ever there IS peace in the Middle East and America can control the oil, they won't care so much about Israel.

Another thing Israel has 200 WMDs (nuclear, thank you very much!) and has never allowed a UN inspection, but do we attack them? The answer is obvious. It wouldn't even be considered.

Why does the right side so much with the Israel? Because the right is more persuaded by the media which is influenced greatly by the government. The media, being owned by just, what is it? 6-9 corporations, can easily be influenced. Corporations can greatly influence the government by donations. Etc.

I won't be arguing my points, and they are just opinion with some facts, because once the right-wingers get on the thread, this will no doubt be inflammatory and I'm watching my blood pressure. (side note: on this board, we tend to argue things to the death--but I'm doing a new thing, just presenting my views. Others can present theirs. Let's all be respectful and friendly, ok?)

But I am not really a liberal, I'm just a tad to the left of center. I just want the US to quit invading countries, etc. And, of course, I'm not anti-Semitic, I'm just anti-wars that are for no legal reason.
