What about the WTS are you undermining? Their authority over you?

Apostate = to a JW, an apostate is anyone who doesn't agree 100 % with the Watch Tower Society leadership and questions their ever changing rules and doctrines...

Apostate is a euphemisim for a former JW who left on bad terms (or, rather, ANY terms). We're evil, vile folk who seek to undermine the WTS.

While not personally evil or vile, I do have a keen interest in seeing the WTBTS brought to its hypocritical knees, and that would be a good thing.

I see - so you are expected to follow their rules - what role do they play in the services? Are they like a main governing body or individual ones?

You put WTBTS - what is that?

Corvin: That was with tounge planted in cheek.

Skeas: It's very monolithic. All direction and dogma comes from the Governing Body in Brooklyn. They've disbanded entire congregations for not folling every letter of their teachings.

WTBTS: WatchTower Bible and Tract Society: the Governing Body.

They all dress up for the meetings. Sundays are 2 hours long:

    song

    prayer

45 minute speach on bible topic

    song

wt study - 45 minute question and answer, based on material in the watchtower magasine. Each paragraph is considered individualy. Questions at the bottom of the pages are read out by the conductor, audience members put up their hands, wait to be called on, recite answers from the designated paragraph. Passages from the bible may be looked up. Exterraneous info is discouraged.

    song

    prayer

    --------------

If you go well dressed, clean cut, you will be love bombed (shown extraordinary attention). They will welcome you, enquiring about your interests, what brought your attention to the jws, if you have bible interests. Basically, someone will try to start a bible study w you. The 'bible study' is a study in your home of one of their books (not the bible directly, they want to get their enerpretation of the bible into you).

The 'free home bible study' is their first step to converting you. They will also try to get you to keep coming to meetings. Someone will likely assign himself to you, as aminder, sort of. to see to your conversion.

This is very interesting and stuff I had no idea about -

So going to a service would resemble not much more than a 'do as i say or else meeting'?

Welcome to the board, Skeason. What brought the JW's to your attention? (Just wondering.)

We're mostly former members here, as you may have determined.

WTS = Watchtower Society (the publishing corporation used by JW's)

WTBTS -- the longer name for WTS, stands for Watchtower Bible and Tract Society

The Governing Body rules the "religion" from its Brooklyn, NY headquarters. If anyone dares challenge them or their ideas, they're quickly admonished or removed from the religion as a "bad apple". Absolute conformity to doctrine is required.

Read more about them here and at www.freeminds.org.
