Just to add to Alan's well made points :

...and the WTS was and *is still* working with the UN in Africa, sending food, clothing and shelter to refugees. This is being done undercover, with instructions that WTS staff not discuss details. Please note, this is not being done from a sense of magnanimity but to buy favors for itself within certain African states. Ivory Coast being one of them!

It works like this. The WTS wants to build a branch, KH, wants freedom to preach, etc. The particular African states says, sure, but in order to do this we need to to donate something to our communities in need. WTS then prepares its shipment and works with the UN for distribution.

Even when they do something right, it is done for wrong motives. Hypocrites.

yes, I knew it was bull. I was just suprised at the ability to glaze over the details so easily. What made me angry though was on the way home I said to DH casually "Well, either the society or the UN is lying to me" and DH got irritable for my implied "assumption"

DH is up for a promotion at work... I don't have the heart to disrupt his life while he is stressed over that, but once he gets it (I have no doubts ) I'm going to leave them for real. I just can't deal with this craziness forever. Plus I'm ready to move on.

I had all these visions of "enlightening" everyone I cared about and leaving together. lol. I have come to realize I'll just be glad to get myself and my kids out :)

    Sumflower,

Reminds me of when I was speaking to a prominent JW Missionary about the 'Panorama' programme in Britain exposing the WTS and its child abuse issues. His reaction? "I put the Bible above Panorama anyday!".

When someone imbibes of the WTS drug, it tends to kill the critical thinking brain cells, I should know, I was addicted for decades!!

    Best regards - HS

Anyway, for what it is worth... what they are saying to people to question the library card excuse

Can't anyone use their library? Seems like we heard that some time ago.

They also got UN transports for the missionaries. How is that a library card?

    Welcome Bluegrass Tom

    2. An article appeared in The Guardian in October of 2001. They withdrew from the UN as an NGO the next day. It has nothing to do with a change in languauge in the NGO documentation.

The WTBTS reminds me of Jimmy Swaggart, calling the Jimmy Bakker / Jessica Hahn scandal " a cancer" etc ( WTBTS decrying the catholic church and organized religion for alignment with the UN ) and then Swaggart was photographed visiting a prostitute named Debra Murphree. ...

At least Swaggart had the balls to publically apolagize.

The trouble is the blinkered WT thinking . The first fact is that "Of course the Truth is the truth" and then "Jehovah is using the FDSlave so they must be right "

It is not possible for a lot of dubs to be objective . There just Has to be a good reason in their book, and they dare not admit to themselves that they question it.

Can you imagine Jesus and the twelve entering into a secret deal to promote the interests and "Charter" of the Pharisees or the Romans, and then covering it up and lying ??

(OK I just saw "Passion" so these thoughts are still with me)

The first official reply from a Watch Tower official was made by Paul Gillies of the Witnesses' branch office in Britian on October 22nd: membership as a NGO was simply a result of "getting a library card" at the UN facilities in New York. Gillies did not explain the annual re-certification process for NGO members which the Watch Tower Society participated in. Nor did he comment on the numerous articles in Awake! which promoted the UN.

The fact is that Governing Body member Lloyd Barry signed the final paperwork to join the Watchtower Corporation to the United Nations as an official Associated Non-Governmental Organization (NGO). Long-time Writing Department member Ciro Aulicino signed the paperwork as the official contact between Watchtower and the UN.

Be careful, afaik they just had to fill in the names but did not sign!

Every little inconsistency will be taken as a prove that this is slander. Of course it is only human imperfection on their side. :-O

Then in 2001 somebody new took over the department at the UN and "decided" that everyone on that "list" were "now NGO's" And that as soon as the brothers recieved notification they disassociated themselves.

I didn't really know what to say...

Here's what you say...you say "Bullsh"...uhh...actually, that's what I'd say... you say, "That is not true" And then you show them the documentation from the UN to prove that it's not.

Because it's not. And either he knows it and is lieing through his teeth, or he's wonderful at self-deception.
