You have a Mars Blvd., Jupiter Ln., Uranus Ave., Canal St. all near by in one neighborhood. I can't tell from Map Quest, but there is a Mars HI reference in there as well; that could be Mars Hill. That's about as connected to Percival Lowell as you can get.

BTW, while the Lowell Observatory discovered Pluto, it was not Lowell that did it, but Tombaugh, after Lowell died. I would discount Pluto.

This makes me wonder WHY these streets were named this way. Frequently "developments" are named after relatives of the developers. Certainly they are often named by the developers. The "pet fantasies" or hobbies of developers can get involved here, at times. Any ideas of these origins of names? Any connections that I haven't seen with other clues?

There is also a Mars Drive? I will look through that. Update: Mars Dr. has less "connecting" feel than the Mars Blvd. It also is much further away from the river and where the two parishes come together.

    Still connecting dots?

"As two become one, a passage of life?"

Sounds like marriage, to me. Uhmm? public places, public property? Is a Courthouse or City Hall or Annex nearby? I know that a marriage license can be bought in such places?

" Near people and places that know much of strife. "

With a war memorial or such, perhaps????

OMG!!!!!!!!! After doing the Webster thing on ecru , and checking the top ten searches on it, I found this:

    Wedding Collection

    Color > Ecru (Cream)

    Advertising for wedding invitations!!!

    Thar's the hue & it ain't RED!!!

Strange, it is trying to tie into weddings!!!

Now Webster's 1 st choice doesn't directly say that ecru is a color or hue. It says raw, or unbleached. This is an an obscure word of French origin. A 2nd meaning is beige. I almost overlooked this color/hue connection; I maintain that the connection remains very tenuous.

But when I did the searches, I find that this apparently VERY OBSCURE COLOR is still listed and known by printers & purveyors of WEDDING INVITATIONS.

Now, it is surely no coincidence that another clue points towards weddings.

(Some maintain that THERE ARE NO COINCIDENCES, but the jury is still out on that one ; as another puzzle, tell us where this statement came from...) This is certainly part of the design of the puzzle.

    Reformatted, heretofore:

1 Hip, hip hooray - the hunt starts today!

A thousand dollars can come your way.

An AmSouth stadium cup and account will help you play

For an extra thousand, two hundred fifty the bank gives away.

2 In Caddo or Bossier begin and end

On public property the treasure you'll win.

Don't shovel or damage, cut or mar

And you'll be the treasure's winning star.

3 Get your bearings with forests, water and hills.

Know your geography, let clues test your will.

    4 Foothill, downhill, anthill, landfill

Tackle these clues, are they all overkill?

5 The solar system has clues that attract us and guide us.

In either parish it could be beside us.

6 Seen from above you won't find the clue.

Look underneath, find the treasure for you.

7 Dry, deserted, connected to Lowell.

The clue is a hue, something you might know well.

8 When discerning the hue, look near something to do.

An early attraction could be near the clue.

9 Could it be Shreveport, or maybe it's Bossier,

The shifting sands can stir your composure.

10 As two become one, a passage of life

Near people and places that know much of strife.

11 Are dangerous animals roaring nearby?

Or ecru crusaders, our own samurai?

    #8 sounds like a theme park;

    #11 could be a zoo;

    You have some looking,

Early in the morning to do...

That's in Shreveport, between Aero Dr. & Fullerton Blvd. & the river? that is not labeled (Middle Bayou & Gross Bayou?).

Either parish tells us that the clues are ambiguous and something similar must be in the Bossier area.

Clue #9 says that also. Off to check the Bossier map?

    Oh my aching #$%!!!!!

Bossier City has a Mars Dr., Neptune Cir., Solar Ln., Venus Dr., Pluto Dr., & Saturn St. over there!!!!

But, there is NO Canal close by and Pluto is there and should be discounted. Shreveport is a good match for Lowell, but Bossier City looks like a red herring.

You need to check the other clues against both, of course.

BTW, from the sound of the names, I might guess that the Bossier City area is purely residential and that the Shreveport area includes commercial/industrial properties. What is real here ????

    Wow, Mustang!!!

    Thanks for all the suggestions!!!!

I'm going to have my husband read over them sometime today to see if he can make any sense out of where it might be. All day yesterday we saw people scouring diff. areas looking for it.

Thanks again....I'll post the next clue after 10:00 this evening...

    Mustang,

My husband and I were talking about this. The streets in Bossier are near the Barksdale Airforce Base (our own samurai) and it talks about wild animals roaring nearby (we are having an airshow this weekend at the base - lots of fighter jets all around)...

Oooooh, this is getting exciting...hehe, should start planning my shopping trip..
