What Is YOUR Concept of "God"?

Well one thing is for sure, whether or not God exists your concept of God is just a concept, isn't it? You can put the emphasis on either the word your or concept, but the point is a concept is essentially a different thing from the reality it points to - it is only a thought in your mind. What happens when you drop all such thoughts? What's left?

I believe in a triune God. I believe that Jesus is Yaweh of the OT.

I believe that God will NOT share his glory with another. Thus the unity of the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit.

Thanks for your strong feelings, ellderwho.

So you believe in a GOD who will not share his GLORY with another and yet he is three different people all at once?

That's cool!!!!! He's a split personality, delusional God who is in denial of all that. Thanks for sharing that with me but I already worshipped one GOD that had very similar traits to those. I'll stick with the: "be the best that you can be and let your conscience be your guide" god and it seems to be working for me so far.

When I was a kid the JW God never answered one single prayer and I was very angry, bitter and atheistic about it for years. Now I believe in Something. I usually call it the Divine Whatever. I agree with Markfromcali that our concepts cannot approach whatever It really is. I don't think there's only one right concept of It. I think anyone can approach It from any direction, maybe even one that seems sinful to others. I don't exactly pray anymore, but I have noticed that a certain kind of intention, that is joyful and wholehearted and focused, can bring things about.

Interesting how so many respondents want to humanize god by referring to "He, Him" etc.

My thoughts continuously evolve on this topic. I liked the one view of god as the universe's "life force". That would be close to where I ring in on the subject. An intelligence and force beyond total human comprehension. When I fly in an airplane and view the earth from afar, or when I walk the earth and examine the tiniest life being, it is obvious to me that something binds it all together.

Into the mystery and thus into 'god'. I don't believe in god as a being to which we pray, or need to be absolved of the "sin" of our existence, etc. etc. The sins of our existence are part of our existence, the creations or beings that we are. I think that since we, by means of the fact that we exist, ARE god too, instead of praying I submit that by meditation we can tap into the power of that force ... and clear our minds, advance our peacefulness and clarity, and find answers for ourselves.

IMO, A force that could bring the universe into place would hardly be worrying about judging our petty little crimes ... even, in fact, the large ones I imagine pale into insignificance. The fact that we and everything around us exists is god to me.

    Again, the mystery.

outbutnotdown:Sorry to butt in on your nice little observations, but I thought the thread was about expressing personal beliefs, not attacking the convictions of others...

Is Ellderwho not allowed to A) have such beliefs, since you obviously feel them erroneous, even though he's not hurting anyone by holding them? and B) express them, on a thread inviting exactly that kind of response?

Btw, I'm good with you finding Jiminy Cricket to be of use to you. Whatever floats your boat, pal

I 'second' those comments of LT. Actually, attacking the messenger merely shows the paucity of the argument.
